Newguys Sprint Conversion
Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
Well the motor is back in and the zaust man has ruined the flange on the zaust.
Can you get the flange off the manifold and out of the car while its in the car?

Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
yes, jack the engine off the subframe to get clearance to get the manifold bolts into the head off, simple enough to remove the lhs engine mount and steady bar. Then you'll need to drop the rear of the subframe though to wriggle the downpipe out. Don't forget to loosen the steering intermediate link before you drop the subframe.
good luck.

Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
New zaust on looks horrible in my opinion, no more gas or oil leaks, new coil which has stopped the pinking.
And i have just passed a WOF this morning

Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
I so hope trumphy makes it to track day has a good day and gets home ok. Seems to be letting oil out ofthe front where the head, block and timing chain cover meet. And then getting round to the zaust where it drips and burns, I hope this does not cause a fire, back seats etc are out

Yup it sure is!
Also where does everyone fill the oil level to?
Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
Ahhh well Shes not to well,
Half way there i had lost oil her oil then after filling her back up she had big blow by and way pushing white smoke out the breather and oil.
Got to the track, was holding its temperature well and still revved OK, i think i may have done another piston or something.
Had two excellent thrashes around the track, car handles great though the back needs to be lowered and stiffened up more.
Then on my third outing i lost a bit of power, i had a massive short from the overdrive, then going into the pits it blew the dip stick out and oil all over the engine bay and onto my electrical fire.
So back in the pits i got the fire out, my mate cut the loom out and we wired the fuel and coil direct and drove home with no lights.
Same ok power, a cloud of smoke but it made the 2 1/2 hour journey.
Time for a professional rebuild, my dizzy is the problem i feel. Pretty sure i melted a piston or rings on the way there.
Will test the compression before taking the head off tonight.
So look out i could be after some new pistons again.
Time to lighten the flywheel to and get a new 3rd gear syncro
Though it held its temp very well it had huge blow by.

Re: Newguys Sprint Conversion
never mind the engine, which I haven't got the foggiest idea about, but that desk is packing some nice technical gear !
bad luck stew, strip it down, have a look, set a timetable and enjoy the process.
