Yes but a perbury CVT dolomite is probably easier to find than a DAF now...
I havent seen one for years...
Father in law used to have a 44, then a 66 and then the volvo 340 replacement. He always seemed to get about okay in the snow on the black isle...

sometimes the most unsuitable vehicle can surprise & come through as superb. My works van, a Fiesta Sport TDCI which has been super chipped, lowered & fitted with wide low profiles isnt really suitable. So as a result I have to drive smoothly & carefully with a very light accelerator foot, this has resulted in an amazing average economy of nearly 80mpg !

The Mazda MX 8 is the worst, by my observations.

Our Cayenne fittes with winter in Romania, despite everyone over in the UK hating them it is excellent in the snow!

Winter tyres make a huge difference, even on a standard front wheel drive road car.

I went to Walsall with my boss on Wednesday to pick some cars up. I drove a 55 plate VW Passat back. Who ever said there crap in snow is right! Even letting the clutch out gently with no revs wouldnt move the thing! 2 Meganes that were with us just drove out the snow like there wasn't any there!

I think I have the 'moving off' procedure down to a fine art right now, in icy conditions:

They've got a transfer case that allows 2WD (as shown :D), part-time 4WD (for low-traction surfaces only), full-time 4WD (safe for use on tarmac) and 4LO, for off-road crawling in low range :)

Best cars i've found in the snow are "old school" Volvo automatics. First time i experienced it was when i was about 18 and had bought a 144DL auto. A few weeks later, the snow came!! At that time i was giving a first year apprentice a lift in to work and she lived at the bottom of a steep icy hill!! Mine was the only vehicle to get up it, albeit sideways!! A LandRover tried and failed, slithering back down with all 4 wheels scrabbling for grip!!
Since then i've had a few other RWD Volvo autos, the last being a 740GLE. I took that out a couple of years back and tried to make it break traction, it would eventually but regained it's grip very quickly which provide a few brown trouser moments as my lead foot to make it break traction now had the car pointed at something i didn't want to hit!! Great fun though!!

Cheers,
Dave
