I'm pretty certain that you have to slightly enlarge the holes in the dizzy cap to get the leads to fit, especially with non-Lucas ones.

Looks like someone has had a go at butchering that one properly.
Std OE leads are 7MM. The better aftermarket ones are 8MM. You can try drilling your cap or you can fit the later princess type
whicg gives you a more robust rotor arm and may let the cheap britpart leccy ignition module for landies fit.

Actually your right Jonners. I hadn't noticed that when i took it out of the box! but it looks like cracks around the holes.
Unless thats reflection off something. I'm at work so can't check it yet.
Oh and why is there the need for different size holes in the cap?

After taking a look at the cap it turns out its not cracks, just moulding lines
And as a temporary measure i have found some old vauxhall leads that i can fit to the cap just so i can hear it running

It looks to me that the carbs have been changed to HIF6 type from the original
HS6 one fitted from new. You can tell because there is no float bowl at the
side of the carb body. Also the position of the fuel lines at the carbs is quite
different.

I bought the cap from Robsport. Seems strange to have different sizes, but its been manufactured this way.

Today this was the result of a lot of tinkering. I found an old but charged battery to pop onto the car, then set about fault finding as the starter would not work. After cleaning the terminals and earth points it started to turn. Fuel wasnt running through the carbs so i took off the floats and cleaned out the chambers. Then fed some fresh fuel in and hey presto!
Tomorrow i will run it up to temp and get the oil running around and hopefully see if the tappets quieten down a bit.

Today started with good intentions. I thought i would run the engine for a while and test for any problems then hopefully do a compression test. I want to see whats needed before i take it out of the car. I'm missing the bung from the thermostat housing and it looks as if its not available to buy. Does anyone have a spare they would be willing to sell?
