Swipe a piston here and a crank there...
By the time they find out and sack you, you could have a full engine

......"I got it one piece at a time and it didn't cost me a dime"....
....."The little things I could fit in my big lunch box, like nuts and bolts and all 6 rods but the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home..." (altered slightly)
Some inspiration for you!

Just tell them you have a monumental case of the shits. Bosses don't tend to question that in too much detail and they certainly won't want to chance a home visit.

I've just been up to the museum to have a look around and do some work for the fun and games I've got planned. If the weather's nice it's going to be awsome. Even if it isn't, there's lots to look at.

There is a grand total of one campsite anywhere near, and it's within 2 minutes' walk of the museum.

The thought honestly didn't occur, but then would you
really want a dozen drunkards sleeping in your back garden?

Me old dad (now deceased) used to work as a manager in the blue oval press shop at Halewood. They used to press out the steel for Escorts and Orions IIRC. We never bought a f*rd part for years, only used the last couple of f*ord self-tappers about 6 months ago. He retired in 1988!!!
SDD, might be able to go. Will keep ya posted.
