Clutch master cyl option?
Re: Clutch master cyl option?
I did a bit of research on the LR part number 90569126 and could not find anything to say the series 2 used the .625 bore, and that includes looking at old part guides and cross reference stuff.
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)
Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Re: Clutch master cyl option?
It was more of a case of I remember taking a master cylinder off of the Series 2 and it looked the same as a dolly and someone telling me that they were.
At lease we have cleared that one up!

Re: Clutch master cyl option?
Ah, sorry James, that was a rushed lunchtime post and I didn't make the point I really intended!
I was trying to that I'm a little confused by this, for one thing I doubt that a .625 bore with 7/16" master cylinder was unique to the Sprint but anyway, though I looked I could not find a definitive source that said what a series 2 LR master cylinder should be, only people selling replacements that could fit a Series 2 and 2a. Example is TRW who list PMD350 as a cross match for 90569126:

Even registered with TRW for a login but nothing states the outlet size, but it does state that the bore is 19.05mm, which is a 0.75" bore. So I tried going through Land Rovers from 1961 and all .75" so gave up on that. Checked other suppliers of the same part numbers and all state 3/8" outlet.
That only says to me that the aftermarket LR replacements might not have the right outlet size. As the slaves are usually still 7/16" does that sort of suggest that clutch master cylinders are now all just actually brake master cylinders?
I do wonder about using a new one with a 3/8 to 7/16" adaptor, as the point of 7/16" pipework is supposed to be less resistance and I've just introduced a reduced diameter. I know that the pressure does not alter on pipe diameter, but I'm of the understanding that a larger bore is used in clutch hydraulics due to the speed of clutch pedal travel and so fluid transfer causing a resistance and therefore dampener effect that would not be apparent in a brake circuit. Guess I'll find out when I fit mine, and I can always get it drilled and tapped to 7/16" if all else fails!

Re: Clutch master cyl option?
Apologies for not checking this thread, before now.
The number I posted was the e bay item number NOT the part number, after further investigation,I am not so sure the seller hasnt just used a handy britpart box to put the cylinder in.
But I assure you its new,has 5/8 bore,and 2 x 7/16 UNF outlets,cost £39,plus post. E bay item no 311750566097 or Classic parts tel 01206230961.
Hope this helps.
