Starter motors: changing from pre-engaged to inertia type?

It has always been said that the 1500 Dolomite starter is unique to the model, but I've never understood how/why it differs from the 1500 Spitfire and Midget starters; I suspect this exercise will identify why...

I'll try to get up there tomorrow or Wednesday...

Spitfire and Midget use inertial starters with a separate solenoid exactly like the one used on the 1300 Dolomite and Toledo. But with this comes a different ring gear so interchangability is limited (you CAN get away with the PE starter on a Spit, but not the other way round)

At last - a conclusion to this saga! Firstly, a few facts;
1. A Triumph Dolomite 1500 may only use a pre-engaged starter motor.
2. The ring gear on the Dolomite 1500 is different to that of a Dolomite 1300 and Sptifire 1500, hence an inertia type starter motor (as used on the 1300 and Spitfire 1500) will not work on a Dolomite 1500.
3. The Powerlite starter motors, manufactured by Eurolec, which were previously marketed as being suitable for the Dolomite 1500, sold by Rimmers and other retailers, DO NOT FIT.
4. Here is the good news....Eurolec have now developed a starter motor which fits the Dolomite 1500 and works perfectly!!!!

Yay, at last some clarification. I've always struggled to get people to believe me when I've told them the 1500 starter is unique due to the ringear being different. How much is the 1500 starter Andy?

I'm not sure of the price yet, the unit now on my car was sent over for me to test and give them some feedback. I've not yet discussed how much they want for it but as soon I've had that discussion, I'll post the details here. I'll see if there may be a club discount available too....
