It might have been won by one of his mates Mart, it goes on a lot on fleabay with the seller yting to push the price up On the c and c site it has had nearly 13000 views so it shows how long it has been for sale.

You won't believe how many times people bid on cars and don't complete the deal. It is rife on the platform. Also sellers not honouring the deal if it doesn't sell for what they want it to go for is another. Plus as dollyman has said, shill bidding too.

Last time I tried selling a car on eBay, I "sold" it 3 times but each winning bidder having a different excuse on why they couldn't complete the deal. From "accidentally bidding" to "not realising it had X miles on the clock".

There's no comeback either. People have tried to go to court but there has never really been anyone who has said they're successful doing it. eBay don't really care about it either. Worse case they'll put a non paying bidder strike on an account but they clear after a few months anyway. After so many days they will refund the winning fee charge and allow you to relist it for free. But you need to wait a few days before they'll allow it.

I don't bother selling cars on eBay auctions or buy it now anymore. Even classified ads seem to attract people who do not turn up. Really frustrating when you cancel or change plans so you can be in, but they don't turn up.

Far too much hassle and a waste of time. I either end up keeping cars for a long time or sell them cheap on enthusiast forums!

Basically bidding on vehicles or property on eBay is treated as a "strong interest" in the item. But you're not actually bound by the platform to complete the transaction. Plus even if you were, there is always the get out of "Not as Described" - someone will always find a tiny fault somewhere as a get out.

Thanks guys. I'm not that naive, honest, I was just playing "Devil's Advocate". It just annoys me that this is allowed to happen. If the vendor wants a certain amount for something, just put a reserve on it. I know, that costs extra, bla de bla. I don't think I will ever buy a car from Ebay unless they can somehow force the vendor to stick to the rules of an auction, but I don't think that's likely to happen any time soon. Would this happen at a "normal" auction?

Ebay is a minefield like you say Mart, i did buy my Dolly off Ebay, but i went to view it and agreed a price with the guy who then took it off Ebay even though it had bids on it..... He said the same that a winning bidder probably would not turn up anyway So i think it's buyer beware!!
My wife sells bit's on Ebay and only sells on "a buy it now" as they seem to pay for it there and then The only problems she has had is a certain group of people always say it's not as descibed and want a partial refund So now when she see's them will mark as dispatched and not send That way they have to make the claim and then we refund them and we hav'nt lost two lots of postage End of rant....

That ebay non-binding bid thing I've seen before but people often seem to miss out one key word "For items listed in Property and eBay Motors classified listings, bids are considered non-binding", so if it's an auction then vehicle sales are binding. If anyone pulled out of a sale that I had up for auction then I'd offer it to each next highest bidder until it sold and take the original bidder to the small claims for the difference...

It's actually easier to state that you will remove bids unless the vehicle is viewed first. That does seem to stop the bankers from bidding as the next highest bidder always thinks there is something wrong. It works for me anyway

"Sold" A Peugeot 207 on Ebay last Tuesday. The winning bidder phoned me 3 minutes after the auction ended and happily arranged to collect the car last Friday.

Friday comes but no guy. Won't answer his phone or reply to emails. I can relist it and leave him bad feedback, but it won't do me much good or him much harm, he only has a 4 rating anyway!

It's not the first time something like this has happened, i'm getting thoroughly disillusioned with ebay. On top of that, ebay are already planning to charge me £25 final value fee on a car that made less than £200 as well as £12.50 for the (no reserve) listing. That's close to 20%!

I'd do better to put it on F/B marketplace there are even more timewasters on there than on ebay, but at least it's free!

There aren't anything like 13k Dolomites! I can't see there being that many folk interested in buying one, especially a low spec 1300!

You can list Moderns on c and c free of charge, and on Gumtree and Preloved as well Just not a great coverage.

Only ever had one problem buyer on ebay. I am always very comprehensive in my item descriptions, if your selling secondhand items on ebay you can't get away with vague short description or phrases like good condition for age.

I think it's been listed as a new advert every time, so the view count will be reset. However the views is an individual count, so refreshing the page increases it by at least one. I bet they don't differentiate from search engine repeat views, so it ends up getting pushed up by being linked in from here and other places. Also wonder this has lead to it being a popular car listed on their based on this. Then ends up as one of the cars up the top on the homepage.

What happens is that every time you alter a private ad, even adding a full stop, it gets put on the front page again . It saves doing the whole advert again. You will notice the trade adds dont have the counter.
