SprintV8 wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:49 pm Are you going to baffle around the pump.
To prevent lost of fuel when cornering etc.

Hence why I having a surge pot built into the new tank.

I don’t think there’s anything on the RR pump to prevent this ?

I’m sure someone here used a pump assy from a MX5.
Phil

Ive got a 4inch diam pipe im fitting inside the tank, and the pump will sit inside the pipe,it will act a bit like a baffle for the pump

Even more sense, I mount my remote pumps under the boot floor. No swirl pot needed! I run the return into a T piece in the tank breather, SEEMPLES!

I'm not sure what the thread is, some sort BSP I suspect. I use a fitting that is standard on some Dolomites which is a brass extended union about 2" long. I cut the pipe out of it to make the bore larger, file off the nut flats, wrap the thread in PTFE tape and tighten it in with a Mole grip. It will then just accept the 12mm bore hose that fits onto the tank end of the pump. A bit rough and ready granted, but it's been operational for nearly 10 years on the Carledo and keeping petrol in the Dolomega for a couple.

The other unit in the pic LHS or nearer the rear of the car is prefilter. I lost a couple of pumps to sludge in the tank. This one came from SimonBBC, has renewable paper elements and, most importantly, has a choice of fitting diameters to match the 12mm hose.

The whole assembly is a lot tidier now, with a shaped copper pipe between the tank and prefilter and the whole lot protected by the longitudinal bar of the towbar which runs parallel to the filter and pump run and right next to it.

Hi Steve

Does sound rough, but if it work it works. The pump does look a bit exposed but if you have had no issue, I might fit it there as it will be easier than above the axel.

I thought I had something UNF in my tank.. I converted mine to a banjo fitting. I'll see if I can find out what I used.

/edit

1/2in UNF. It's been in there for about 3 years without leaking or falling out so even if it's wrong it's close enough!

Slight update.
Now allowed back on the farm.

It’s going to be moved inside one of the barns early next month.
Once I get the subframe (Modified to fit a Escort Quick Rack👌) back on.
So progress should be better this year.

Slow steps forward.

Changing the front lower arms to rose joints.
Modified the location they mount as well.

Bit more work done on the subframe.

Question.
What’s the distance between the crossmember brace the rack bolts to the ground.

Finally getting back to this completely mad project.
Spare engine and Supercharger is now with my mate who works for a Enginering company that has some rather tasty and complicated CNC machines.
Who will be machining brackets for mounting the Supercharger.
Possibly machined a new pulley based on the Petit Supercharger bottom pulley but with 6 ribs and larger.
And a revised alloy top inlet manifold.

Bit more strengthening done to the subframe.
CAD (Cardboard Added Design) design fuel tank in progress to sit between rear turrets (As the Works Escort Style)

Ordered some more parts from various suppliers to keep this project going.

CAD fuel tank finally in its last shape.
Just need to measure it up and put the dimensions on paper.
Will talk to CompBrake about final tweeks.
Fuel foam and baffles pump and filter mountings etc.

Drag strut are now adjustable for length and rose jointed.

Manage to pick up a NSF door from Alun ( Via James Thank you Both) as the bottom of my door was rotten.
I’m now doubting if she really spent the last thirteen years in a barn.

Quite a lot going on recently modifying the subframe.
Front drag links have now removed and now rose jointed adjustable and rear fitted.
Escort steering Quick rack will now be fitted in front of the engine.
As there’s no room for the original Triumph rack in its original spot.
(ALUN I will send you the triumph rack I haven’t forgotten)
Because I wanted the engine as low and as far back as possible and couldn’t bring myself to cut and shut a £500 Greddy aluminium sump pan.

Once everything’s in its final position then I can Box Gusset Strengthen then seam weld it all back together.

Also having the Doors that I got from Darren and Alun prepped to replace my original doors that weren’t in the best of health.
Well one wasn’t original it was yellow.

Final dimensions for the new Alloy Fuel Tank submitted.
Sits in between the rear turrets against the seat back holds about 70/80 lts.
Should be enough for a thirsty Rotary.
That should be with me beginning of August.
