Fantastic progress as ever Rob! Can't wait to see the finished car. OUJ next?

Sadly, OUJ requires quite a lot of work, as almost everything from the front doors back requires replacing. Maybe in a few years or so. I think I deserve a rest!

I would love to update you on progress but, sadly, there is none. The painter has been involved in a nasty motor accident, which has meant that this project has had to go on hold. It sits in the back of the painter's workshop, under a sheet, with a TVR and a Triumph 2000 keeping it company.

Remember this thread? Well, she was dragged out of her corner and into the paintshop.

The little orange Tolly was painted this morning. I have not seen the result but, knowing Rich Peacock's talents, we should be looking at a job comparable to my little green 2-door, Villum.

I shall start putting her together tomorrow and drive her home tomorrow evening.

Here's a few pics of how she was looking over the weekend, as Rich and I masked her up...

Will try and get some pics done tomorrow, if I grab time. I have a slight nightmare, as I have to deliver my 1500HL for priming, strip it of its doors and give it a quick rub down all over. Then the Tolly has to have its panels, screens and lights fitted so it is drivable.

I've been called many things Rob but thats a first.

Well, the moment we (or I at least!) have been waiting for… the car was painted and today was the chance I had to put it back together enough so I could drive it home.

This is what greeted me this morning…












By 2pm, we were getting there; thanks to Stuart (covcourier)










By 6pm, she was ready to take home…










There is lots to do, as I would like to get the exterior finished this week. The interior needs some work though…

Yeah, totally fabulous! I was about to say that it must be as close as it's possible to get to the condition of a new one, from the period, but that wouldn't be kind as I'm not seeing orange peel, runs or overspray in yours.

Thanks for your kind comments. I am very happy with the paintwork - it could do with componding to get a really glossy shine but, to be honest, I'd rather have more paint on to protect the metal.

I spent most of last night fitting the trim; being a later Toledo, it is fitted with most of the later Dolomites' shiny bits, so I had an enjoyable few hours fighting with those hateful little plastic clips.

The doors and the front end have been injected with Dinotrol anti-rust cavity wax and I shall be fitting the grills and front end badges tonight. The front bumper is original and shall be refitted, as it is in quite good condition. The rear bumper was both rusty and bent but, over the last year, I have collected three new bumper pieces, so I shall reassemble those.

While going through my spares shed, I came across some new genuine Triumph front and rear mudflaps, which are of the style appropriate to a 1976 car, so I am tempted to fit those.

The plan is to get the exterior finished, prior to cracking on with the interior. I have a set of good s/h "narrow" black seats but one of the bolsters has collapsed, so I have salvaged a reasonable replacement from the original n/s seat and shall fit it to the "new" driver's seat.

I will have to replace the carpets. They are fooked, apart from the footwell ones. Does anybody have a good 1300/1500 black carpet set or can recommend a decent carpet supplier? I would like to have a go at making my own carpet set out of good quality material, as I think it would make for a good magazine article.
