Ah, the shopping basket, that is my prototype roof mounted carry all. I think it looks quite cool.

I agree, looks the same vintage as the car too!

Just don't go around any corners with it up there though Ken   .

Same vintage, I'll have you know that it was liberated from a large supermarket last year (unintentionally).

Anyway, plan for the weekend...... finish off the bootlid at least, rustproof it and prime.

Ken.

I know I am preaching to the converted but please be sure to have a bloody good root round in the boot floor and corners thereof. Removeing the rear bumper and fuel tank will give you a better view.

Bumper doesn't look half as bad as you suggested by the way.

Looking great - love the early single letters on the boot lid - a giveaway of an early series car.

Hiya Martin, you are quite right, the boot floor will be scrutinized closely once the tank is out of the way. Looks like there's loads of furry stuff on the boot floor. I checked with Nath and this is quite normal. It will all be taken down to bare metal. I will probabaly use something like dynamat as a replacement or something else if anyone knows better. Am always open to suggestions.

The tank itself will be cleaned up and painted. The rear bumper looks ok, the front ........ not sure yet. Haven't really got that far (too scared).

Ken,

The furry stuff is sound deadening wool and is why the FWD is soooo much quieter inside than the later Tolly and Dolly. You ain't seen nothing yet - wait until you lift the rear seat or go behind the dash!

Hi Ken,

I'm not sure if it helps but Rimmers do a "sound deadening pad" these days which you can cut to shape. I've just bought a load for the GT6 - it's only £2.50 per pad. I'm not sure if its as good as the wool (I suspect not) but may provixde a decent low cost replacement.

Cheers for the heads up on that Angie. I shall have a look.

Martin, would you be referring to the plastic bags filled with sound deadening? I had one from the RB2, quite nifty. FWD doesn't have one.

Anyway, bit more progress today. The boot lid is fully stripped down to bare metal and has been rustproofed. I will put on a couple of coats of etch primer tomorrow. No rust inthe main areas of the boot lid other thatn to one side of the lip at the top.

I can see this becoming a full on resto

Does anyone know where to get the plastic bits that the Triumph lettering pushes into on the FWD boot?

Angie, do you have a parts ref for those pads. Can only see the mega pricey ones.

Ken
Bresco do them, but strangely the Triumph ones are a little smaller than the Universal ones used on Minis and such.

And look for...

Plastic fix for 1/8" diameter badge pin in 11/64" panel hole. General application Ref: 70080P

But double check what was on your car first!

Thanks Howard, I will have a look and check. Thanks very much for the link, very useful!

Martin, did the boot integrity test with a screwdriver (well the side I can get to), all is sound. All the hairy stuff will be scraped off, panel cleaned up and redone.

Bit more work done today. I think that once the bumper is off, I should be able to get the rest down to bare metal. The o/s rear wheel arch needs two minor repairs, however, the rear n/s needs a repair section. Does anyone have one they no longer need?

Some piccies anyhow:
