Re: 1972 Toledo
That is looking ace...!!! Those slot-mags just look so right on the Toledo...

Re: 1972 Toledo
Back at home, slowly putting it back together. 2 Doors finished with new weather strips

spent a bit of time polishing the glass

driveway scene! neighbors spitfire and friends Moggy Traveller currently with a broken front screen.

Got fed up with putting the trim back on so I moved on to the electrics, I;ve got some NOS Hella front headlights which I can use the H4 halogen bulbs in. One of the sealed beams has had its day so its time for an upgrade. After reading a few threads on this forum I decided it would be prudent to install some relays for this upgrade.
So some bits purchased from Auto Electric Supplies:

Lucas 6RA relays for that Period look! These were liberated from my mates Ex-army landrover 101 forward control after he did a rewiring job and decided lucas stuff wasn't for him! They will need a bit of a clean up (like the rest of the engine bay!) but work well.

tring to keep factory wiring colours, terminals all crimped/soldered/shrink wrapped.

should fit nicely on the inner wing behind the battery, there appears to be 2 holes already in the inner wing for this very purpose! Presumably these holes are used on a Dolomite for something?

Picked up some new rear fog lights (right) to replace the tired dealer fit ones, when I looked in to the wiring for these it was all scotchlocks and wires running all over the place. I think I can do a better job, I will also add a relay.

They were probably ordered from a 1974 copy of custom car magazine!

Re: 1972 Toledo
That is coming together very nicely indeed...
It is interesting to note that your Toledo doesn't have a chrome gutter trim on it (even going back to the older pictures of it in your ownership) so will you fit these or leave them as is?
Mine are a bit broken(!) so when I do the same as you I may leave them off to be honest...
On another note, where did you get your weather strips from?! Mine are pretty much deceased...!!!
Please keep us posted of the rebuild as this is sure to end up looking very special indeed.

Standard Toledos don't have gutter trims...... or tread plates in the door openings ......or the lower door rubbing strips.grifterkid wrote:That is coming together very nicely indeed...

Re: 1972 Toledo
^^^ I suppose my Toledo being a late one had the gutter trims and door rubbing strips added to make it more desirable...?! They were definitely fitted from new...
Anyhow, I cannot wait to see how this Toledo looks when it's been fully fitted-up. It is going to look fantastic!!!

Re: 1972 Toledo
Yes my '74 Toledo had gutter trims - I remember this because they were the only things holding the gutters together!
Re: 1972 Toledo
Yup no gutter trims here! I dont think i'd fit them even if it did have them seems like another area for moisture to collect and rust the car!
The weather strips came from Chris Witor http://www.chriswitor.com/
Nothing much to report on the Toledo, interior is all back in few bits of wiring tidied up and I;ve got the headlight adjusters soaking in some bilt hamber rust stuff.

Re: 1972 Toledo
Thanks for the info' with regards to those wether strips, I shall have to get some quick sharp! Are they easy to fit...?!
Re: 1972 Toledo
The strips are a bit fiddly to fit, I used the clips Chris Witor sells which are of a better design than the originals.
I found the best way was to remove the door card, then remove the window stop at the bottom of the door. With this gone you can then wind the window down a bit further than normal which give you a bit more room. Once the clips and new strips were roughly in place I used a 'L' shaped bit of steel to pull them securely up in to place.

Re: 1972 Toledo
Blimey, those lights look absolutely ruddy brilliant...!!!
I have been promising myself a bit of added illumniation ever since I took my Toledo to France and realised that night time driving in the French countryside was rather quite scary!
I have some period Lucas 'Square 8' spotlamps that I will fit at some juncture and looking at those Halogens I am going to have to source some of those one day (soon) too...!
I have to say that your project is now fully becoming my inspiration...

Re: 1972 Toledo
Glad its an inspiration!
Took it for a spin yesterday, first time since returning from the paint shop (with out windows!) I'd forgotten how go-cart like it is compared with my Saab. Could do with a bit more power though! Lots of smiles from other road users too
New rear fogs, Toledo TS badge to confuse people!

no much to do now, the interior needs a good clean. I'm going to replace the large 3rd rear brake light with something smaller and more subtle. Polish up the rear slot mags to match the front ones.

Re: 1972 Toledo
I'm sure you can find a suitably period 3rd brake light from eBay or similar... Are those rear fog-lamps from the 'bay?! I think I may have seen them and I may nab some myself...!!!
I still think that the Wolfies are a great choice of wheel...! Spot-on...
