OK, I may have to don the old welding helmet again. Apart from the lower front panel I may have to do the top half as well...and after removing a fair amount of filler from the left hand side rear panel, I may have to renew that also. I will wait until Jon has assessed the shell to see how much welding I need to do, to keep costs down.

The top front panel is ok but I need to replace the rear panel and the LH rear arch. Both have been ordered from Rimmers.

First thing today I removed the doors...

Image

I've not taken off a rear panel before so it's taken me most of the day to do.

You can see the ripples in the panel after I removed 4-5mm. of filler...

A few holes to be welded in the boot floor...

Started drilling the spot welds out...

Mart,

These are excellent for removing the paint and keying the surface underneath, iv used them on MWK and they work a treat!!

http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-clean ... inder.html

A little expensive but better than wire knotted brush which polish the metal, iv used the brushes but now iv found these ill be using them in future!!

Thanks Nathan I may give one a go. You're right that the knotted wire brush does tend to polish the surface, not what you want for paint to adhere to, but I mainly use it for the awkward bits. I'll be going over it with a DA before it goes off to the spray shop.

I'm hopefully not going to be doing the welding Darren, it depends on the quote I get back from Jon. I said I would take the rear panel off and the N/S front wing which would save a lot of labour costs.

And there's me thinking I had given you some inspriration

Well I'm just going to sit back and enjoy your resto, because they give me lots of inspiration. Bringing my Tc out of the garage tomorrow now it's finished :D

Got back on with the bodywork today. I finished getting the wing off. It took me ages as this wing has been replaced before so it wasn't spot welds I was drilling out, it was welds. I also had to get it off as cleanly as possible as it's got to go back on. Mary spent the day stripping the boot lid and bonnet & she's also in the middle of revarnishing the door cappings.

Blimey, there's quite a lot of welding there Mart, I wasn't expecting it to need that much.

At least it's in the right hands :D

Yep, a bit more welding than I anticipated Darren. Still, it has to be done, now I've gotten this far.

Wing just after DAing...

...and with some etch primer applied...

...and the rest of the car...

I've just got to finish DAing the roof and remove a bit more paint from the engine bay then that's it for the shell, off to the sprayers in the next two weeks. Hopefully by this weekend I can start on the spannering jobs. :D
