Tick tick tick tick nuts.
Re: Tick tick tick tick nuts.
The car now has an MOT. So it is back on the road after laying up for 6 years
I went went for the MOT retest today, went OK, no problems with the starter. I drove down to K2 in Crawley to pick up my son, about 8 miles, it was really hot. I stopped the car at K2, collected my son and then the thing would not start: tick, tick, tick, tick. After about 20 or 30 attempts it eventually turned over.
I drove back the 8 miles to home, parked up, went in the house 5 mins later went for another drive, no problems at all. Went to the Post office, then the petrol station,, started straight away.
So tomorrow I'll clean up all the electrical connections and see how it goes from there.

Re: Tick tick tick tick nuts.
I suppose my recent experience on my 72 example would say it is worth looking at the connections...mine was suddenly clicking like yours and I found
the connection from the fat battery cable had come uncrimped at the solenoid...
Bit embarassing asking for a push start to get home....
But I suspect you will find them all ok and it will do it to you again sometime soon....like when you stall at traffic lights....
My money is still on worn brushes and/or a dodgy solenoid end cap.
