MX 5 offers less power and is not particularly good on fuel so why do it.

Supercharge or turbo it, however why not do that to a Sprint lump.

Rotary possibly the best way to make a Dolomite even more unreliable and drink fuel by the bucket too.

A blown Slant 4 is surely a recipe for disaster?

I put my mx5 (turbo)on the rolling road last week and it made 220.1bhp
At 8 psi boost!!!
I have had the car for 14months and it has been unbreakable.
Drive it off boost and it drives like a 115bhp standard engine and does
Over 35mpg!!!
Looked at rotaries but for the reasons you listed I discounted it.
Looked at that 1972 v8 dolomite that was on eBay....absolute rubbish!

The 1.8 makes 130bhp stock, i'd forgotten that. Mine's a 1.6, does lack torque but who cares when it revs to 7k.

I have a spare supercharger kit in my garage for one!!
Takes power up to 170bhp on the 1.8 with no mods!!
More with an intercooler!!

If I had an iron lump Dolomite I would not hesitate to insert a proper engine like the Mazda

You are unlikely to make any money from such a venture. People who do the conversions usually like to make stuff up and DIY the job. At least I do
You may find one or two people who want it done, but they would probably want it as a turnkey conversion.

I am still uncertain which way to go with my car. Zetec is the current favourite, as I have one sitting in my spit and know my way around them. But can be swayed...........

Keep it in the family....

Rover T16 or K VVC....

Show them what the dolly could have become....

Nice idea, but rather more complicated than either the mx5 or zetec as no obvious RWD gearbox. OK, T9 with adaptor bellhousing.

However, you just don't see the T16 very much, and K series.....HGF springs to mind. Yes, can be sorted, and otherwise an excellent engine. But the ford/mazda offerings are bombproof.

I keep thinking TR7, but then remember that the slant engines can be problematical, and are just not as good as the more modern stuff out there. Besides, the conversion has got to be cheap
