So the power wash could be the Straw that breaks the Camels Back....

Transplant the mechanicals into a decent shell would seem to be a reasonable step, make a nice car, just make sure when it is sold it doesn't go the way of the last one that was done to a decent standard - clarkson & co

I know you like a challenge Mart, but KDF's shell is one heck of a challenge

Mart, I went to see the car tonight, meaning to take some photos, but the batteries in my camera were flat! Anyway, a quick look showed that it has no front wings, lots of patches on the inner wings and holes in the top of the offside inner wing. I does have new sills and rear arch repair panels fitted. The offside doors didn't look bad from a quick look, but the nearside doors were inside with other stuff piled on top so I couldn't comment on them. It has had a replacement front panel at some point and this looks pretty flaky now, but I don't think it's holed. Bonnet and boot looked OK. I didn't look underneath properly so can't comment on the chassis legs and couldn't really see the floor for all the junk inside. It has a hole in the roof for a sunroof (not the webasto type). One very bad bit is the rear roof vent which is boll****ed and covered in filler. The front and rear suspension are mine and it is completely bereft of glass, trim, and mechanicals, so literally just a shell. A bit crusty, but not beyond your abilities. Inca yellow and soon to be located in Hathern, Leicestershire.

I'll get some batteries and take some photos as soon as I get another chance.

I don't think its that far gone really, I allways judge them on the rott in the seams, if they look ok I would say go for it.

'Ear, Hay Mart,

that is no worse than VLK was...and we didn't have the benefit of these:

OK...so VLK isn't finished...yet, but it will be!

A project like this just sorts the wheat out from the chaff...you can do it

I'm sure 'the Club' will look favourably on a bulk order of repair panels if 'bread' is the issue. You can't give up yet, you've barley started!

You should have seen some of the electrical connections! It has Halogen main beams & one them was wired up with speaker wire. Not sure what was happening with the O/D switch, not the standard switch and a small LED next to it. :?

Your car does not look that bad compared to the way Dolomites and 2000s often looked in the 80s, that is the ones on the road!

Seriously, is the car complete? If it is, I would certainly sort it, perhaps just to prove to the doubters that it can be done. Would take a while though, making repair sections and welding two evenings a week - 2 years?

aimed at Mart initially, but need to shift it so pm me if anyone interested.
Just the shell available - all mechanical components are mine and trim and interior are long gone.

More done on KDF today. Front & rear screens removed, all interior including dash & heater matrix removed.

A small patch needs welding on the bulkhead and the right chassis rail has rusted/collapsed on the rear subframe mount. All in all not too bad, considering.

For now I'm going to stick with stripping KDF with a view to restoring it. I think I can do it although that rear repair panel seems a bit daunting. I can but try.

I mentioned the electrics in an earlier post. Since then I have seen some real dodgy wiring. A blue lead from the +ve battery terminal all the way to the indicator switch & soldered not very well, god knows what was going on there. But the icing on the cake (my flabber has never been so gasted) was when I went to take the fuse box off. There were no fuses, but that's OK, this car obviously didn't need them as someone had connected the two sides of the fusebox with a couple of small lengths of insulated wire.
