Sprung a leak, well it was there for a while, I just
avoided looking at it,

Looks and feels like a bit of oil and petrol,
time for a new pump and gasket ?

That's a QH replacement pump which are rebuildable.

The OE AC delco ones arent without a press and some serious gear.

I'd just go for a new gasket first off....

I removed the old pump and the gasket seemed to be intact.

Then dismantled the pump,


The problem seemed to be the rubber bush,

I went for a new pump, however there was still a leak,
both mating surfaces are perfect but the doubt was on
the thin gaskets.

Ordered the one Robsport has online separately to the
pump, (thicker) done the trick, so far.

For some reason I can't place pictures inline anymore?,
thus they are in the wrong order.

I noticed that, bug maybe?

I've got the photos in the right order for you. You need to attach them in reverse order. Better still, upload them to a hosting site such as Photobucket or Flickr.

Still on only minor jobs, so I cleaned up the steel breather pipe and clips,

Still plagued with fluctuating revs at idle.

After having checked every hose, and crevice,
I thought of changing the inlet manifold to the one from
Teds collection sold by Alun.

At the same time the thermostat cover, carb
breather hoses and fuel hoses were changed.

The revs have settled down now, bit will check fully tomorrow.

Very bling but yellow SU dashpots is a step too far IMHO.....

If I was your car I would run like a camel on principal...

Anyway your problem is those crap pancake air filters. Get yourself a proper air filter box, chrome plate it, paint it pink inside so nobody can see and invest in a K+N panel element for it. These are common to TR7's and stags and are the dogs...

I'd go for magenta air inlet hoses that go in that panel down by the rad that you've probably lost or mistaken for a battery holder....

Also is that breather hose from the cam cover air tight? It looks a tad oversized and the clips a bit far from the ends...

Thanks Jon, the dash pots do provoke,

The breather is tight but just to be sure have moved the clips to the ends.

I do have a polished up air filter, but the SU pancakes are not as free flowing like the K&N's, and do allow a lot more access, I may block off some of the grills and see.

The revs have settled quite a bit, the only ebb is most likely the dizzy rotor, cap or a fouled spark plug, result overall.

Wish I could take credit for polishing the manifold, after trying for a week ended up sending to Gavin at GP Polishing, why?

Almost forgot the DRL's,

I'd get de scabbing on the front panel asap, before the scans turn to holes.

Its a labour of love.....I have to keep doing mine every two or three years.

Oh and many thanks for your kind letter. Just a thought on your idle...are your air valves free? They can sometimes get a bit of dirt and stick intermittently. My Rover does this occasionaly. Very annoying but a quick wip off the dashpots and a wipe with an oily rag sorts it. No idea how the dirt gets in.

We have a good upper front panel to go on the car along with several other bits that need treating. The lower valance is not as bad as it looks, just a coat of satin black that is washing thin in the rain.
