Nice pics Miniman and thanks too for your help in getting us home, we are obliged.
Good ole Mart for taking me round and organising it for us, bloody hell this is like an Oscars speech :D
The car was lethal on our first WET outing which was thankfully stopped when a BMW hit the side HARD and was shortened by 3 feet lucky they were not hurt (vid to follow).
Then we were out again and my Ebay gasket failed causing me to slide to a halt, and home on a lorry.
Many Triumphs failed there sadly.
Some times I get a bit fed up with track days, now is the time.
track action maniac.

Well my first track day in the (not so) Quicksprint and my first outing at Castle Combe were great fun.

Apprehensive of the overnight rain (arriving at about 11pm on Friday my Mate Dave and I couldn't even be arsed to get the tents up so tried sleeping in the car), it did eventually stop at about 9am.

The new engine performed faultlessly (I don't think I caused any latent problems) and it revved freely to 7k RPM, I used the track to the full, I tested apexes and when to cut in, I was outbraking (thanks Jon) a lot of other cars and was cornering with a good controlled 'feather' on the oversteer...and was passed by most other things on the track! On the straight running up to Quarry the max speed I saw was 95mph, my best average speed was 68mph, both verified by GPS. My problem was the car wallowed and bucked beyond belief.

Analysis afterwards was the car has effectively stood for the best part of two years to my knowledge so the tyres (road tyres at that) will be sub optimum at best. The car is slightly lowered to 1", but on non adjustment spax shocks to the rear and basic adjustable spax to the front. Compared to Mart's car it positively bounced at each corner; Mart is running 400lbs to front, 200lbs to rear. I was also leaving a good overtake space on the RHS most laps when the track was busy so the idiots could get past so was off the line a little bit - had to lock up on two occasions when I was cut up in the no overtaking zones at corners (Jon, thanks again!). The combination of these meant I was having to scrub so much speed off for each corner in order to get round them, I just couldn't make it up on the straights. There were only two cars I managed to hold off; a Brabus Smart car and a 1.9 205 GTi.

Nevertheless, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. I was sorry to see both Darren and Jon have to pull out, but have come home myself with bills to pay as next time I will have both tyres and suspension sorted!

Oh, and in case there is any doubt, when Darren overtook me early on in his video, it was even more a convincing disparity of speeds than the camera portrayed!

Great day out for us the spectators. :D

Loads of classics and alike, loads of track action and plenty of triumphs too. :P
Many many cars on track gave a surprising performance and i was lucky enough to watch what can only be described as a mamouth battle between a blue Dolly sprint and a mark 2 Jag Classic Touring Car.
Couple of sessions later, one mark 2 Jag going round for a while then he backed right off, no problem just wanting a rematch and to have some more fun with a rather well sorted opponent in the blue Dolly. Awesome entertainment.

Met a guy called Dave Poth, nice bloke gave us a lift and i very nearly begged for a passenger ride in the blue Dolly when Dave passed it by but as i don't really know anyone it just didn't seem right to laden the car with my 14 and a half stone,.....must loose weight for next time. :woohoo:

Like the others Matt and i had a great day, thanks Mart,Trackerjack,Alun,Darren and Dave for making us welcome.
A good display of cars considering the weather of all makes
Track action at its best, especially the sound of Vince Woodman in his capri, awesome.
Lets try and get a dolly day here next year? would be a good venue.
Rich the rain had stopped by Cirencester and we ran back into it coming home in Moreton, dont rely on forecasts.

jon.........you ever thought of swapping the dolly for a beamer
Err some black nameless head gasket (I should know better  )
Yes met the guy "George"? he had problems too.
Yes I have thought about it Jony as a mid nineties BMW M3 can be had for about 3 grand.
The other car that I have thought of is an MGB with a V8 up its chuff, this car has the full backing of a club instead of dozens of clubs that dont connect. Which means many opportunities to trackday with loads of other loonies.

The green Stag was supercharged!

On the way back Dave and I discussed what could be bought and simply and cheaply tuned for track day use; the list is endless! Certainly for what the sprint has cost I could have bought several!

When i ran a sprint engine i had the block wire ringed around the cylinders
Dave mac did the block for me and i never had a gasket failure in all the years i abused it and abused it i did

It was good to meet up again & see some new faces.

It all started pretty miserably, weather wise, but it did stop raining & even brightened up a bit as the sessions got under way.

On my first session (9:30) the track was fairly wet so I just tip toed around. The second session (10:45) was much better (dryer). There was a damp part on the exit of 'Bobbies' chicane so I couldn't go as fast through there as I usually do. Jon (Trackerjack) was co-driver.

Video 1

Unfortunately Daz & then Jon had problems (as has been mentioned) & had to retire early.

Davepoth went out in his 1850 & it looked like it went very well for a bog standard car that cost him a few hundred quid. Just goes to show, it doesn't matter what car you bring to these events, you can have fun in anything. :D

On my 3rd session (2:30) I had DaveP along side me & the track had dried completely. This session turned out to be the best of the day for me. Me & the Jag spent the whole session having a terrific tussle.

Me v Jag Part 1

Me v Jag Part 2

Then on my 4th session (3:45) I started behind the quicksprint of Alun. As I was overtaking him round a bend, I had to back off a bit as I started sliding towards him (cold tyres). I was then trying to catch a MK2 MR2 (the red blob you can see in the distance on the vid). I was gradually reeling him in & then came across the MK2 Jag again. Apparently he had slowed down so that I would come up behind him again. So battle resumed.

That green Stag is a fantastic bit of kit - few videos of it on the ol' Youtube! :)

Looks like everyone had a great day (barring the obvious).

'Twas a good day. Had a bit of a thermostat housing cap issue (plastic one broke off; the brass one I borrowed off Jon is now stuck fast, so I had to borrow one from Miniman, and then drive him to his house to get a spare) but apart from that my little car did very well (over 80 coming up to Avon Rise) and got a lot of stares in the paddock, which may or may not have been from people wondering how it ever got onto the track. :D

Then I was lucky enough to be out with Mart on the tail of the Jag. Awesome ride, and a fantastically sorted car which always feels well planted, even with two wheels on the grass. 8)
