Right then :D
guh is coming off the road for the winter so its having a few choice modifications whilst its resting. i have bought a front spoiler and rear spoiler as seen here viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19156 so these will be getting fitted. also the front panel has started rusting pretty badly so this is getting cut out and replaced. im also collecting a mazda mx5 1.8 engine box and loom etc next weekend so this will also be going in :D

Lovely bright looking car this. I look forward to the addition of the TriumphTune front spoiler, I don't think I've ever seen one fitted to a square headlamp car.

I think that spoiler will actually look much better than it would on the round h/l car. As you say, something to look forward to!

Started cleaning the new sprint axle ready for the dolly this weekend. I de greased it and and then jet washed it. Then my grandpa has been using an electrolysis tank to clean a few parts up for his gates in the garden. What an amazing thing! It's just a big tank with soda water in it. You put whatever metal rusty parts you want in it and another piece of metal in there aswel. Then you attach the positive terminal of a battery charger to the sacrificial piece of steel and the negative to what ever you want to de rust and turn it on! Amazing. Within about 2 hours the water looked like this
Image

I guess that means its working. After just two days the sacrificial piece looks like this

I turned it tonight and you can see the difference straight away.

Cool! The rust you can see left on it there just washes off:) what a toy. I'm looking for things to de rust now. Unfortunately my car won't fit in the barrel

That's an old strimmer lead that's now the power lead for the charger. No need for extension leads for this one. It's built in! Haha

Only just seen this thread for the first time, fantastic car!
Really love what you've done with it - the black and silver touches all around the car, like the wheels and chrome, really work well with the funky paint 8)
Nice one!

Thank you 8) I can't wait to have it back on the road now!
I painted the axle today. Might need another coat tomorrow in places.

Can't wait to get it on now :D
Also a quick picture of a little flood we had near my house this evening.

Luckily all sorted now. Was a blocked culvert. Filled the local spar though!

More soon.

Been doing a bit more today. Set the axle up on the bench and removed the half shafts.
Image

Fitted the new end seals. Ones from the back end of a 1500 gearbox I think they were. Can't remember now as I bought them ages ago. Need to buy one more now as one got damaged during fitting. Bugger. Can anyone confirm the part number for these seals? Thanks.
Painted up the drums and backplates ready for new shoes and cylinders.

Image

Also painted the rear anti roll bar but forgot pics of that! Have one of the garage instead

More soon!

More work today:)
Got the dolly out of the garage and turned it round. Then jacked it up.
Image

A few swear words and hammers later its off!
Image

Just before I took it off the road my axle dropped. And this was the cause.
Image
Image

Where the big washer washer is now welded on it snapped! Rusted through. Anyway. I have tr underside a good wire brush and then stonechipped it all.
Before
Image

And after
Image

I then stripped all the arms off the old axle and set about cleaning them ready for paint:)
Before.
Image

After knot wheeling.
Image

And then a liberal coat of hammerite black.
Image

And this is how I finished today.
Image

More tomorrow when the paint dries ill finish assembling the axle and get it on.
Stay tuned.
