VA969 Mike's Early Sprint Restoration.
Re: VA969 Mike's Early Sprint Restoration.
Mike, still one or two irons in the fire. Other than them, I'm still waiting for the 'right' car to come along.
After seeing the quality of workmanship on display here, I might settle for something needing some TLC, if the right car hasn't come into my possession by the time the Pop's finished.

Can't add any superlatives about the car or the amazing quality of the restorer's work, but people with that kind of talent are few and far between! A shell that's being properly repaired as that one is will be possessed of the same structural integrity as an untouched one that avoided the tinworm, when the car makes its show debut, anyone looking at it among its peers will be completely unable to tell what's been done without seeing the obligatory folder full of restoration photos.
Gobsmackingly good quality work, it's a long time since I saw anything even close to that standard!

They have a pic of one on their website but must be rare for them. You'll have to send some of the pics into Glynn for a future Dolly Mixture as I'm sure a lot of non internet savvy members would like to see the project progress.

Re: VA969 Mike's Early Sprint Restoration.
I'll be really interested to read your closer inspection report Mike particularly any enclosed spaces you can see into. Traditional electro plating processes only work where there is line of sight anode to cathode leading to poor to no coating inside items. No problem for the inside of a shell with no shortage of openings but what about the enclosed spaces? SPL talk up how advanced their processes are but then they would. Any peering you can do into door bottoms, bonnet / boot strengtheners, A B C pillars etc - an unbiased opinion appreciated.
My reason for interest in the fiddly bits is that I'm planning to send a subframe and a couple of GT6 suspension turrets to be done. Both are hollow items with few vent holes that rust predominantly from the inside out. I'm sure the strip & pickle stages will work perfectly well inside closed shapes but if the inside is not going to get protected by the e-coat then I'll be going off the idea for parts like these.
The subframe is going to be a gamble anyway. Hopefully the E-coat will protect the insides, the outside I intend to get powder coated. The gamble comes into it because SPL can't be sure how the e-coat will react when the powder is baked on. I may end up with a wrinkly mess.
