Almost right Steve.
Its not a "Y", but a full-on American V8.
The curved flutes in the bonnet indicate 1933. '34's had straight flutes.

This probably shouldn't be in this thread but I figured you might be interested.......and anyway, its got a SPRINT in the pic.
Yesterday a mate invited me around to help get his vintage speedway car running. Seen here without its bodywork....but you get the picture.

The car was built by the same chap who built Sir Jack Brabhams first speedway car in the late 40's. The chassis are identical but the power units have changed over the years. Sir Jack used several different engines but it was in a chassis the same as this that he ran his first encounter with Coventry Climax engines.
In its current spec, this particular car won many events throughout the 50's and 60's and still performs well in historic events. Its powered by a 1300 Harley Davidson (bottom end), with home made barrels & pistons and Norton heads. It did originally pump methanol through Amal Carbs but is now fitted with Mikunies.

After several hours of trying to start the thing and fighting a temperamental magneto, we decided to call it a day and enjoyed a few cold beers.
A most pleasurable afternoon and time well spent.

Nice, looks fun. The cockpit area looked a lot shorter due to the angle/perspective in the prev shot.

No pics I'm afraid, but on my travels on Saturday to the North East of Scotland I saw a Delft Blue Sprint being recomissioned, originally from Devon. They also had a Mk1 Fiesta on the go. A mile or so away there were two Rover P6s in a garden, looked good, and a Mini traveller in the garage.

On the road I saw a Morris Minor pick-up, Lotus Elan, a seventies Bentley and 7 Astons in convoy giving it big licks. Oh, and the ubiquitous VW camper van.

The scenery was stunning, picture perfect. Scotland - if you have a god, this must be his country.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago.

It had gone right past me before I thought of taking the photo.

That must be the bar and grill mentioned in the Thin Lizzy song?

I'm thinking of getting a Chevy pickup like that one in the earlier picture.

Great pictures James of cars on the track. What camera and lens were you using and what sort of shutter speed. It's a difficult balance of blurred background and a crisp car.

I hope you have a decent budget if you want a Chevy pickup - or a Ford of similar vintage - something roadworthy starts at about £7k. I keep looking at these cos my missus wants one too! TBH I prefer the late 50s and early 60s style myself - and i'd give my left knacker for an Australian Ford Zephyr MkII Ute - but that's another story!

Thanks Mike, the camera is a Canon EOS 70D. Lenses are just the basic Canon EF-s 10-18mm, 18-55mm and a Tamron 70-300mm for the long distance shots. To get the blurred background I tend to select manual focus set up where I want the picture, exposure is between 1/30 or 1/60 depending on the angle then I just follow the car in rotating my body and take the shot, it takes a bit of practice!

It's all about the angle of the photo, on this one I tried to go for the shot just off to my right and focused on the nose of the car to get a sense of direction and speed.

I like the 50' Chevy 3100's Steve and would need 15k. More now if I imported.

Thanks James for the info. I have a 450d and similar lenses. I have had some success like yours but need to drop the speed a bit more and hold nice and steady.

So after a four hour drive from Devon, I arrived in sunny Huntingdon, near Cambridge.
I'm here for a few days.

On route I spotted...
Mini traveller (woody)
Mint looking Morris minor
Two, yes two ac cobra or shelby's, replicas I assume.
A convoy of some new shape corvette stingrays.
Triumph acclaim towing a trailer tent by the looks.
A McLaren F1, pushing it hard, I moved over in time!
Nissan 280zx it looked like.
And plenty of large groups of bikers, chapters etc.

As I got nearer Huntingdon there were more and more stingrays, I pull into the car park of the hotel and there's loads of them. Some customised a bit, one ST51RAY.
Turns out it's the Stingray owners club meet and there staying here.
Some foreign plated cars too.

So much for a quiet night,
