Amazing how many layers of paint on the chin spoiler, each one sanded/scraped off revealing another, total = 7

Almost finished, just the last few niggly areas to do, but the question is,
should I primer and paint again, or just leave au naturel ?

I did not do my normal research this time, as the flaky spoiler paint was really getting on my nerves.

Have a laugh, i used,

Hand brass wirebrush (lightly)
Sandpaper
Sanding sponge
Contact spray
Foam cleanser
Isopropyl alcohol
White spirit
Methylayed spirit
Freezer spray
Car shampoo
Washing up liquid
Warm vegetable oil
Water
Degreaser
Glass cleaner
Silicone spray
Acetone
Fingernails
Hand steam cleaner
Various types of tissue and j cloths
Microfibre cloths

Basically anything I could lay my hands on,
but the most effective was one of those cheap
Stanley blades, the segmented type you snap,
sold in almost all pound stores.

Main problem was a gooey black layer which was
beneath every two layers of paint, scraping/ angled slicing was the
only way.

Power tools were a no no, as friction heat would
probably have done more harm.

After all that.......It would be a real shame to paint it  What would you do if the paint reacted in some way? I shudder to think

](*,)

After a year and a half of back order my new carbs arrived,

Burlens say they do not have the shorter dashpots and I should return for a refund,
also these do not seem to have a spring for the throttle butterflies ?

They are so lovely and shiny I don't want to send them back.

According to Burlens some cars had the longer chimneys, or did they mean 1850's ?

I will ring around tomorrow and see if there is any dashpot stock around.

A couple of well placed bonnet louvres might just do the trick, hmmmm.

Personally I would ask for a refund, sprints had the shorter dash pot necks, also I would have done away with the waxtat jets and opted for the earlier type jet , if they are to be correct with the waxtats they should have the poppet valves on the butterfly discs.

For the amount of money that they cost I would want them correct for the car.

The problem is that pistons and suction chambers are matched to each other so fitting a used set will ruin a brand new set of carbs.

I have a used set that I am about to refurbish, red jets, new bushes etc... I was going to sell them when they are done but I could do them for you.

Many thanks, they will go back, my carbs are around 90% of what new would be, only need bushing, waxstats already replaced.
