Here you go:

Now with added correct gasket (thanks again):

The bottom nuts, washers and thingy were especially fiddly:

Taking shape. The rocker cover will be painted (probably silver):

Forgot to add that all of the stud and nut threads were cleaned up using my trusty die and tap kit. The manifold stud threads were coated with copaslip.

All nice and clean Ken. Make sure you seat that second thingy from the left properly before you tighten it up!

Yep, spotted that one. All will be sorted tomorrow. One of the stud downpipe threads was a little mangled and I have tried to sort it as best as I can. Luckily it was on the first 1mm or 2mm of the stud.

The torque wrench was in shock after languishing in the loft for several years. A final tighten of all things manifold and down pipe then on with the rocker shaft/push rods.

Ok mate, the loser forks out for a bacon roll!

Cheers

Excellent job there Ken. I've only ever done a head gasket once myself and I ended up getting my mate Brian to grind the valves and change the valve stem oil seals. You're on the home straight now with the head.

Hope you're ok Glenn!

Cheers guys, I feel much more positive now and will try and do as much as I can today. I realised I no longer have an oil filter, so I will order one on Monday, plus a couple of other little bits.

It has been a really interesting experience sorting the head out. Ok, I am under no illusions that it is very small fry compared to some of the mechanical stuff that has been done previously but it has given me a real sense of achievement. Even my steam engine mate was impressed. Of course, this is no guarantee that the engine will run after it is all back together. There could well be something else amiss. I guess I will have to wait and see. No doubt I will have good support and advice from here as always.

Cheers

Cheers Howard, I guess it is a pleasant change.

Today saw the following:

Flush of the rad which produced a reasonable amount of rusty water, no hideous gunge or sludge.

The manifold was all tightened up properly. The carb was fitted and cables connected. The rocker assembly was fitted and torqued down properly. Air filter and plugs/HT leads fitted.

To do:

Paint a couple of bits including the rocker cover. Fit the thermostat, housing and water pump/fan. Fit the new fanbelt. Fit rad and various hoses. Refill coolant, carry out oil and filter change. Set the tappet gaps, chuck on the battery and start the bugger up. Hopefully.
