just picked up a lovely dolly 1500hl 1979, after a couple of days my main beam has stopped working? i did fit a stereo but i'd be surprised if this was the cause?, the side lights come on but turn the switch again and nothing? flick the full beam stalk and that works fine (both twin lights work fine) help!!

I would quess that some wiring or connection has been disturbed whilst fitting the radio, I am no expert but I would check the connections going to the white multiplugs and those around the switches to see if anything is a miss. I believe that the 'flash' goes off in another direction because it is fused, although headlights are not (but I have no diagram).
As I say I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound as though much is wrong because the lights all work on flash, if I have read your question correctly.

Exactly the same problem I had! As VYO suggests, the solution is to clean the connector block that the column stalk plugs into.

Burnt out column stalk, common problem. Replace the indicator/main beam stalk, then re-wire the headlights through relays.

I had this problem with my Sprint in 1985 and some contacts on the switch had burned out. Another switch cured the problem.

I had this problem 3 weeks ago. Again it was a new switch needed. the headlight switch contact on the stalk had melted and distorted.

But don't forget to do that as well - or you'll be changing the stalk again before too long!
