Righto. Got the car this morning.

First impressions..... well everything seemed to be there. OMG does it need a clean. A really good clean, with lots of chemicals, lots and lots of chemicals. Big drums of chemicals.

Previous welding looks solid enough. Everywhere important looks solid. Good service required methinks.

That matt black paint has to go though. Bonnet not too bad, front valance looks solid. Doors ok, various pillars ok, rear section of roof ok.

Did I mention it really needs a clean? The only issue about the interior is that the headlining has a couple of holes in it. Seats, door cards, dash, etc, look ok. Oh and it cost me an extra £15 plus admin to put it onto the policy. Not too bad.

Glad your getting rid of the matt black paint Ken, Are you painting it White as it was? If so, one of the nicest colour schemes IMO. Think of Lee's lovely pi but on a smaller scale..

Parked side by side, they would be a very nice sight to see, and to photo at a summer show.. 8)

Hi Reg,

The matt black look suits some cars, but it's not for me. The car will be painted Old English White. This is a warmer white than Triumph used. Put to very good use by Roy on my former LWD. Must get the code from Roy. Lee's PI was a stunner. I doubt this one will be anything like that but it will be an improvement. Cleaning will commence tomorrow!!!! Wish me luck.

The V5 still shows it as white.

Do you reckon it needs a clean then? It will be looking great once it's been given the Ken treatment ;)

There are several different shades of OEW! Find the colour that was used on '60s Minis and use that if you want to be period correct. IIRC, the OEW used on '90s Minis had a bit more cream in it, and the earlier colour looks nicer.

Looking forward to seeing pictures and reading about progress, Ken. The 1300 looked very solid in the pictures and I also think OEW with red is a great colour combination. I don't think I have ever seen a 1300 in those colours, but I can't wait to see yours once it is done.
Judging by the pictures, though, I think it needs a good clean, Ken. I don't know how you can live with a car like that!!

I'm really pleased you have bought the 1300 Ken, and that it is going to have one of the most caring homes it could wish for. It will look simply stunning in white with red matador interior, and we all know it's going to be an absolute knockout once completed. Good luck with this project and your auto conversion on the TC. I will be following this thread with great interest.

Thanks Steve,

First thing will be a good wash (for the car) tomorrow. Yes, I know it's freezing but there is a lot of road grime to get off, not to mention the damn road salt. Then a quick clean of the worst of the detritus from the interior.

It's weird having a fwd that isn't Valencia Blue and a car that's MOT'd, taxed and insured from the off

Hmm, what to call it?

Where can we see some pictures Ken? I get the impression people already know of this car.

Look forward to seeing it sometime in the summer!

Make sure you take some nice new photos, especially before and after :)

Good show Ken
Ermine white as used on the Lotus Cortina, much nicer shade than OEW

Ken, don't let em catch you on Retro Rides - you've got a car with the 'Rat' look and you're gonna turn it back std - good on ya.

I tend not to be one for naming my cars, but "The Rat" would certainly suit it at the moment, flakey matt black over old white over rust, some go to great lenghts to create such a look

Will, the owner had plans to chop the fwd. Would have been an interesting look. The rat look is popular amongst hot rodders and some VW folk. Not one i go for intentionally.

Ermine White..... don't recall that one. I shall have a look

Well, it's a start

Volkswagen L87 Pearl White is also a lovely colour and looks great with a red interior. Was used until 1966 on Beetles.
