Well the lad failed today...
First of my children not to pass 1st time. Shame really as I thought he was the least bad of all of them.
My daughter was a dangerous liabilty and she passed. My wife and I followed her on a journey once and she was lucky not to be involved in 2 accidents due to the quick reactions of other drivers. I was horrified so I gave her a lot of post test hard lessons and now she is reasonable. First lad was and is quite good....no complaints there.
Sad thing is he was failed for being too caustious...!!!!
So on that basis then we should expect to see all pensioners and school mums banned cos he is a LOT better then some of those Ive seen.
Just a whole big rip off really....at least a ton a go!.
I think there should be some recourse....and a second opinion cos I think he's easilly good enough and deserves a license and so does his instructor. Bet he'd have passed if he'd been a girl or foreign.

Driving test lottery
Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.
Best of luck for his retake Jonners - I'm sure he'll do fine. There is a large luck element to it, not just down to skill but down to the situations and impression you make on the instructor.
Personally, I'm suprised I passed my test - not because I wasn't a capable driver, just my nerves were shot to bits.
In the ten minutes leading up to the test we had to do an unplanned emergency stop when a bloke ran out of an alley into the road, then at the next roundabout, a speeding blue Astra cut straight across it and bounced off the side of me as I was making my neat (and correct) exit.
Driving instructor almost killed the bloke! I remember him shouting "he's got his test now!" and the guy turned around and goes "Good luck!"

Cars get checked out every year for safety -MOT.
Why not retest all drivers every 5 or 10 years?
Have a window of a year and use your own car, would cost about £30?
One examiner, 10x 0.5 hour tests a day, £300 quid earned.
Scrap the rigged theory test, that test is unbelieveably pointless.
I'd quite happily retake my test as I'd know that the current dreadfull driving that's seen on the roads today might slowly improve.
Mentioned before how much better I felt after doing my bike test in 2005.
MUCH more observant, I can see the difference in my own driving
Good luck for your lads retest Jonners, I failed first time
