Spotted over on aronline.co.uk the SD1 club are planning a tribute run in August for Spen King who recently passed away. Range Rover and Triumph's also invited and couldn't find any mention of this on the forum here.
Details can be found here

This thread mentioned it, but it wasn't known then what, if any, Dolomite-related involvement there'd be.

I see the form has the TDC logo on it

. Does this mean there is some support from this club now?
(talk about leaving the membership in the dark eh?

)

Not sure whats going on with the use of the logo but im assuming that Andy has said they could use it, I spoke to the Stag Owners club (whos logo also appears) about the run and they were going to email Andy the info so he could post it on the forum, I Also received a call from Sally (SD1 club) but have yet been able to speak to her.

Rightyo peps I have got to the bottom of who gave permission to use the logo, Sally, she of SD1 fame, had spoken to a chap whom I shall not name and he had given 'permission' stating his involvement in the club, as no harm has been done and there may have been a bit of confusion with similar club names I shall say no more!
The organisers of the 'spen run' now have the TDCs full permission to use our logo.
Anyone inetersted in attending the run please get your application off asap.

Hello,
I saw this topic a couple af days ago and would have explained if I could but was not authorised to do so at that point. I am sorry if it has caused confusion but I was given the name of someone to contact and did so in good faith. I contacted all the clubs on top of the form (or so I thought!) and several more (One of which never replied and has since complained that their logo is NOT on top of the form!) I only used logos which I believed I had permission to do so. But I hope that you will now see your logo on the form as a positive thing, and no wonder the confusion as my "contact" had done nothing to further help my cause or make the run more widely known about.
Anyway, I certainly don't want to get involved in club politics when all I wanted to do was organise an event to commemorate the life of someone who has contributed so much to our motoring heritage. I must stress how much I want all of the cars Spen King was involved with to be involved with this event. He was involved with the development of the Sprint engine and if you own one of those in particular I would be delighted if you could bring it along. However, anyone is welcome Sprint or not.
I am not just an SD1 person, although that is the club I am most involved with and the SD1 is my every day car. Prior to the SD1 my everyday transport was a M1 Triumph 2500 pi automatic, and before that a Triumph herald 12/50 which I still own. The nearest I have ever come to owning a Dolomite was an L reg 1500 FWD which I drove in the mid 90s for about a year until it seized up!
Please down load a form from the link above if you want to be involved. Every car entered on the run will get a rally plaque and free entry to the museum at Gaydon for the driver. Places are limited to 100 cars. Triumphs will be starting from Coventry and Lesley Philips from the Stag OC is organising the departure from there. We have also got Classic Car Weekly involved so it should get good press coverage. Finally, after costs, the remaining funds raised will be donated to a charity chosen by the King family.
Once again, sorry for the confusion caused.
Sally.

An excellent choice, can we have pictures please?

Close enough, you're in!
Good luck with this, I won't be able to attend, but please take loads of photos and come back to show us after the event.

Thanks Sally for the clarification on this topic and how the TDC logo came about being there.
We as Triumph owners we owe a huge dollop of gratitude to Mr King, I personally thank you for organising this tribute to both the man and his memory.
Best wishes to all involved, hope the day is the success it deserves to be.

Was doing some research on the Nissan diesel engine that lives under the small cab seat in my Urvan - seemingly the same TD series diesel was fitted to London Fairway cabs - and was a much loved and reliable engine amongst London cabbies. On one website (
http://www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?ado6indexf.htm) I see that Spen King's name is mentioned - seemingly he sanctioned the use of a Land Rover 2.5 diesel from 1984 till 1985 in the Fx4 series until the new Nissan TD engine was available. Truly a great engine, the Urvan starts instantly hot or cold, turns in approx 38 mpg and it currently has 118,000 on the clock, London cabs fitted with this engine could turn in up to half a million miles!

Hi guys. We still have plenty of space available on the run and I would love to see a few more Dolomites involved. Please try and come along, we are raising money for the International Myeloma Foundation. We have been promised some interesting vehicles to attend at Gaydon and hopefully the more that come the more fun everyone will have admiring the cars involved. I am a Triumph fan so don't let the Rovers have a monopoly!!!!!

I have a Range Rover and a Dolomite Sprint. Unfortunatly I can't do the run but I should be passing Gaydon during the afternoon in the Spint. If thats the case I will stop there for a while to show support.
