Just to clarify, you have a Sprint but someone has removed the Sprint engine & replaced it with an 1850? Presumably the rest of the running gear and exhaust has also been changed?

Sounds more like an 1850 system - the Sprint standard exhaust doesn't have a backbox (there are two under the middle of the car) but the 1850 exhaust system has one mounted parallel with the rear bumper.
Any chance of some pictures so we can see what you mean?

Sounds like it's a replacement stainless system. You could try a backbox from one of the usual suppliers, or it might be easier to take the backbox off, take it down to your local independent exhaust place, and see if they have anything similar.

The rear section is the same as on the 1500 engined cars.

We saw this car last week, I'd be inclined to take it to Mr Tyre, Gulson Road, Cventry, have the existing back box removed, and either replaced with a generic silencer, or even just a pipe of suitable diameter.

You can't just get mild steel off the shelf these days so stainless is the only sensible option really. It does cost more but then it will last much longer. Truth is though you can get a whole stainless system for not much more than your quote and then get someone to fit it for you if you can't yourself.

I'd be inclined to replace it with a bit of pipe. If you're going to reinstate the sprint engine, you'll need to change things then anyway.
You could fit a "sports" system, and then I believe it's a case of change the downpipe between Sprint and 1850 applications

Failing that a universal box in there should be fairly simple, something like a Jetex one would do the job.
