7" Wheels

I want to get a set of wider wheels for my Track Sprint. I'm thinking about getting a set of these...
Wheels
Presumably I will need to put arch extensions on and get wheels with a smaller offset than ET35 so that they don't rub on the inner arches?

Hi Mad Mart, I reckon they'll look great! Depending on what offset you get you may only need to roll your guards or mildly flare them out. I run 8" rears on my Dolly with a big offset (outwards) to help fill the bolt on flares . I cant remember the exact offset sorry. Fronts are 7" and there is quite a bit of tyre outside the arch without the flare on.
Love to see some pics once you have them fitted

Just worked it out. If I go for 7" wide wheels with an offset of ET20, the inner rim will be 4mm. closer to the inner wing & the outer rim will sit further out by 34mm.

Hi Mart,
I think they look good. If you would like to know, give me a day or so and I can measure my 3 piece 7" wide BBS wheels that are fitted under standard (almost) mudguards and let you know what the back space measures.

Mart, just in case you didn't already know, Compomotive stock blanks of most of the wheels they make and will drill them with the correct PCD for any car. Might be worth giving them a shout?
I do like the wheels you've posted though...

Thanks Mark, I'm not in any hurry. I can't start the Track Sprint project until I've finished/sold PUS. Oh! for more space.
Thanks Oli, I didn't know that. The wheels I'm looking at are a copy of the minilite/superlite wheels.

Mart, thought you were using 14" wheels & tires for the current car? The Minilites look great though! My mates Rally Sprint can use upto 6x13 with slightly pulled arches, but I guess he uses a lot more travel for lose surfaces...
Cheers,

I'm using Compomotive 5 spoke 6x13. I would like to go to 7x13 or maybe wider if poss.

Hi Mart,
Finally got around to measuring my wheels. I run 205/60 x13 Yokohama A048 tyres on 3 piece BBS wheels. The outer beads of all mudguards are flattened. The tyres will touch the outer and inner guards under extreme loads or when the tyres are brand new, but it is only very minor scuffing.
The rims measure 5" from the hub mounting face to the inner bead. So from the hub face 2" offset out and 5" offset in. You may struggle to get a production (cast) wheel with this type of offset. Some front wheel drive cars run a lot of inset to their rims.
Hope that this helps.

Thanks for that Mark.
So you have an offset of ET38 which is pretty much the same as the standard Sprint wheel (ET35). The inner rim will be 22mm. closer to the inner wing but the outer rim will only be only 16mm. towards the outer wing.
Did you do any mods to the inner wing?

Not that I remember. I think that there might have been some minor "rework" of the rear inner guards where the tyre touches, ie. hit with a hammer a few times. Front is not a problem unless the car sits very low.
My current car runs the longer ST stub axles and have 38mm spacer on the front hubs to widen the front track. (The rear track is 90mm wider than standard Sprint). the only problem that this causes is on full lock the tyre touches the lower front valance (corner cut off) and the rear near the splash guards. These are removed and the attach flange has been flattened.

Has anyone tried to radius the rear arches on a Dolomite? inevitably the flat part of the arch lip/swage would be lost, but some strength could be built back at the top of the wheel tub. If you were to do that, perhaps you could get away with just a small spat, similar to those used on AMG Mercedes etc.
