1978 Twilight Purple Dolomite 1850HL The Lolomite.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

So with a handicap race, the fastest cars start at the back?

Yes, the handicapping system is designed to get all cars to the finish line at the same time, hence the staggered start with the fastest at the back. Never works exactly as depends where you catch other cars up and therefore how easy it is to get past. You are not allowed to actively block someone although you are supposed to hold your line rather than move over. Onus as always is on the overtaking car to do so safely.
Being in the middle of a grid of 30 odd cars means you are trying to overtake a dozen in front of you while another dozen behind are trying to catch and overtake you, all at the same time you are racing within a group who do similar lap times. Doing all that in 8 laps makes for a whole lot of fun. Very late braking and getting a good exit speed from corners are essential to making up places. Get a clear lap and you are guaranteed to pull a faster lap than in a normal scratch race.
Very addictive!

hey Geoff, cracking race that, nice to see the MGs all being passed. Really good and stable camera too, anything special about the mount ? It was nice to see the parts of the circuit where the dolly excelled, looks like you were overtaken only twice but leapt over quite a few cars ?
