I put a topic up here recently where you could view old news footage, this proved popular with 238 views so here is another;
http://ssa.nls.uk/index.cfm
This one
http://ssa.nls.uk/film.cfm?fid=6699 I found interesting, a rally from 1976. 40 minutes of road and forest stages dominated by Ford Escorts but also has plenty of other entries (some I found suprising).
Factory rally cars from Triumph include 16v TR7 and Dolomite Sprint.
Here are a few shots which I thought would interest people here?
Black Dolomite Sprint?
And low flying Sprint piloted by Pat Ryan:
Spectator inca/mimosa Sprint;
Hope you enjoy.

Amazed!!
No one interested in this then?
I found it 10 times more interested than anything that would have been on tv this evening.
Oh well I guess Eastenders wins again!

Is it a black Sprint, or a 1500SE?

Its a sprint - look at the number plate light and the chrome strip along the top of the sill. Third picture is a very young Ari Vatanen.

Being from 1976 it has to be a Sprint. You hear it go past behind one of the Drivers being interviewed in amongst all the team cars so I wondering if it is a Triumph Team car (with all the bits).
How about that spectator letting the Ford Team to pull the diff out of his Capri so Ari Vatanen could get on his way eh? That wouldn't happen today for so many, many reasons.
Sprint actually splits it's bodyshell after going 6 feet into the air yet still carries on competing - the stuff that made rallying great.

There are a few black Sprints kicking about, Merlins old one being the main one I remember.
If I can get some PC time at the unit when I'm not busy setting myself on fire with the MIG, I'll be sure to watch.

Stripping off the Capri Diff was brilliant...."Get down to the local dealer....get a full axle unit and send me the bill....I'll give you my card"

The black Sprint that Oli referred to did reside in Scotland for some of its life but it is too new to be the one featured.
There was a black Sprint that tore around Fife (Kirkcaldy?) until the mid 80s when a fire caused its demise. I don't know what registration
year it was. It was known to Doug, the DSR Scottish rep from the 90s.
Ian.

Pleasure Mike, so glad you (and everyone else) enjoyed watching it - I'm on the third viewing now

.
Love the sound of those exhausts - the most fruity note appears to come from the Opel Kadett.
