In the dry.

And with a tiny bit of drizzle.

POE is pretty much standard at the moment apart from cooling, brakes and a sports exhaust but is great fun.

Nice videos Ben! I really like your Sprint, maybe that has something to do with the colour
Your car seems to be running very smooth and for a standard spec engine it’s not at all sluggish.
From
your website and the
SprintSpeed website, I’ve learned that you are planning further upgrades to your car. What modifications are already on your car, how do you recon them and what modifications do you have in mind?
I’m having upgrade plans for my Sprint too
Cheers,

Nice driving, you look really quick through the corners, looks like that's where you made up most over the other drivers.
Your car seems to corner pretty flat although it's difficult to judge from the video, but I remember a standard Sprint to have a lot more body roll
Can't wait to get my car finished & do a few track days, if I am brave enough!

Pretty flat through the corners....hmmmm...sorry, but no! She's on the door handles, I need a passenger to lean into the corners.
POE's current engine is my spare engine which is bog standard, carbs, cam, air filter, not balanced - just a spare standard engine which I built a long, long time ago and sat in he shed not being turned over. POE's original 26k mile engine was actually a joke - ruined by some so called Triumph specialists.
Modifications - I do like the EWP's - so she has two, a booster and standard EWP with controller and large rad.
The twin 8" fans have gone and one 12" is in it's place, which is far better than the nice looking but rubbish 8" units.
I do love the ST brakes - you can see I leave it to the 50m mark before braking at the end of Lavant straight, I come out of Lavant corner at 6.5k in 3rd and click in OD pretty soon - that's 90mph, then let her gradually gain a bit of speed in 3rd OD, into 4th non OD and leave it to rev it's nuts off then brake (sorry, but if it goes bang at 7k so be it) - actually there are only three places I brake at Goodwood (POE's so blooming slow!!) which keeps my lap speed up. With POE I completely ignore the 'Brake' signs. You really don't need to.
The shocks are a mix of AVO and GAZ with soft springs - and I'm not going to change them - it's like driving an armchair!
Engine - for next year I've put three blocks and two heads in for doweling as per Hans engines. With new bearing caps made for each block, baffled sumps, remote filters with cooler, block braces to suit, lightweight flywheels, STR91's, twin 45's, programmable ignition, Vandervell bearings. ARP fixings. Fully balanced. I'd like the engine to idle like a modern car and have a bit of poke - a reliable 150-160bhp would be nice with plenty of low down power, yet bounce off a 7k rev limit all day long.
I'm not certain of the CR to run - Rob's latest engine runs some really high CR with loads of grunt, for this road car I'll probably run 9.8 to 10:1.
Gearbox - wide ratio gear kits with OD.
Axle - new with LSD and suitable bearings.
Body - wide arches 8" (plus) rims - standard interior - no weight saving, it's not a race car.
Brakes - 13" wheels with the biggest brakes I can get under the rims. I do hate 14 & 15" rims on a Sprint.
Suspension, springs and shocks - remove some of the polly bushes - replace with rubber bushes. Same springs as now, nice and soft - it's 80% road car 20% track.

Wow, your envisaged upgrade path is impressive! Have you already sorted the parts? If so, I’m seriously jealous
Your bhp claims refer to RWHP I guess? That should be relatively easily reachable with what you have in mind. Hans also built my engine, but to standard specification: HS6, standard cam and manifolds and 130 bhp at the wheels. One day I also will upgrade to STR91 cam and in the end maybe Webers or injection.
Only thing I’m not sure about is your plans on the body (wheel arch) modifications. I’m a fan of the sleeper look, and your car is very clean and original looking to begin with. But then again, I’m also curious as to how it will come out
One question about your current spec: do you use the standard ARB’s front and rear and do you use the shortened TCA’s? What ignition system is currently on your car as it seems to run very smooth at all revs?
Thanks again for sharing!

Loved it, smooth lines and the Beemer in vid one was a bit err naff.
You pass faster cars by being a faster driver.
I will look at the wet one next

Thanks guys.
No - I don't have everything I need at the moment, the bearing caps are being made and line bored. But I don't need them for a few months.
Body - POE does look nice but did have a restoration a fair few years ago, bits have been flopped up - including the rear arches, so I need to replace those, I'm leaving the interior standard, but putting wide arches on because I like the look and it saves me repairing the rear arches, they are being chopped out and tubbed.
I currently use standard ARB's and I do have shortened track control arms - not the adjustable ones at the moment, adjustable will go on. Full geometry was done before we went to Spa.
RWHP - yes, no point in flywheel HP.
POE currently runs a 123 Tune dizzy with standard map, just increased rev limit to 7k, the standard 123Tune limit is 6k.
I'll try a 123 Tune with the Webers (POE's complete running gear will go in my Toledo).
Looking forward to the Triumph Club day at Goodwood on 25th. I get loads of understeer in heavy rain at Goodwood, yet I got very little understeer in heavy rain at Spa - so I put that down to the track surface.

Bike carbs are cheap and possibly best for hassle free.
I will see you at Goodwood tomorrow

I will be there with the Quantum.

Hi Ben, how did the Goodwood Club Triumph day go?
Also interested in your 123-TUNE dizzy. Did you use the special adapter to mate the 123-dizzy to the block? And does the dizzy cap clear the Sprint inlet manifold or did you use an alternative cap?
Just curious

Club Triumph day was great ta, lovely sunshine and not too cold.
Met up with David Grant who was a willing passenger for a fair few sessions, I didn't put the GoPro in, which was just as well as we both had a lovely passenger ride round Madgwick corner, otherwise known as a lack of talent and a bit too much oversteer
Also said hello to Jon Jackson who was sharing sessions with Diane and both going extremely well
There were a dozen Triumph's and just five other cars, so we had loads of track time, very embarrassing as I was overtaken, but only once by a front wheel drive MG with a V6, nicely track prepared and well driven. But it will take some time to get over that
My 123-Tune dizzy was actually a modified Sprint dizzy, so no fitting problems, I sent a new dizzy over to Hebels who converted it for me.
Daz - I did think about injection, but still undecided, thoughts of a standard cam, injection and a centrifugal supercharger or remote Turbo keep cropping up.
POE is now in at Rob's (SprintSpeed) for the arches, should have it back for painting by Christmas.
