My 1850HL gonna be a long hard slog..

Hi All,

Have taken the plunge and started the task of saving my 1850HL. It's been with me for 30 + years ( l learnt to drive in her) but has been dry stored for about 20..

Usual areas need attention, sills, inner rear arches, (front panel inner and outer replaced about 5 years before she came off the road)

N/S sill has been cut off and replaced with a nos panel though the welding is poor at best!

Lock up has been broken into twice now, lost the front seats both ns doors, the ns wing which was brand new steel and a shed load of other nos panels in the first grrrr, then in the second they tag sprayed her then set fire to stuff on the roof so am going backwards...

On the plus side she turns over, and even fires on 20 year old petrol (still 1/4 tank) which obv needs to be replaced with fresh!!

Jonners has given me some contacts for welding, am just in the process of getting her rolling (rear brakes seized) and am gonna need some encouragement to keep going as it looks a bit daunting...

As a result of the fire i'm going to need a new roof, or fit a webasto or similar, certainly need a new headlining as the roof is buckled and the headlining toast..

Back seats are now knackered as a result of the fire too, not gonna dwell on that too much as it is discouraging me... onwards... any advice or support / encouragement is very welcome..

Will post some pics of her as now..then you can see what i'm upgainst!!!??? Not got oodles of money as have taken a huge paycut to keep job so all round gonna be tough but am determined.... Figure if I have to update this, and you guys keep me focused will get there eventually!

Iain

looks mostly solid which is the main thing! if you need help with sills then please let me know.

i'm guessing you didn't manage to track down the panels which were lost to thieves? one has to wonder what they were thinking of doing with them....

keep us updated please :)

No all lost took mostly the heavy stuff so guess it was scrap value? Bumper doors shocks wheels wings etc... may regret the offer of help, there is lots to do....It is solid, no deterioration really since it was laid up..

Not really, I have to move her.... garage doors are rotten, as is the locality... spent the weekend freeing off brakes and pumping tyres, now turns over just need to get her running, clutch is free, just need fresh petrol, tank still has leaded in it .. twenty years old... not gonna run on that anymore..

Best of luck with this project.
Looks like you need a change of it.

Thanks Jonners, it's something dear to me, time and vandals have been against me, but i'm used to overcoming the almost impossible.. so maybe i'll win this one ... looks better in the flesh ... not much though, the yellow is the residue of the tag spraying paint, most of it wiped off..

Cheers

Iain
