Is my Dolomite the fastest car ever?!

#1 Post by 2F45T4U »

I don't understand this, at around 3250-4250 rpm in top gear if I put my foot down the rear of the car squats down and it goes! I havn't driven many cars properly and thought that it may not be anything too impressive. I drove a HDI 110 turbo diesel 307 estate the other day. In 4th and 5th gear at 70mph the thing had no where near the kick my Dolly has at that speed. The 110 stands for 110hp...
Today I drove a Clip Cup 172, thats 172hp... Everyone in works been ranting about how damn quick it is, I wasn't that impressed really and in 4th and 5th gear at 70mph the thing certainly felt like it has LESS kick that my Dolly when you put your foot down!

Both the yelow and red dolly do this kick up the arse thing at those kind of speeds so I'm thinking it's nothing to do with the car i'e worn bushes or lose this or that. It's a rattly, smoking, £25 engine, that had like 105 hp when new... Can anybody explain this to me?

Newstuff is smotth and refined, with a Doplly you get a good old suck of air through those SU's andit all just sounds faster IMHO

It's because you don't notice the speed coming up in the new cars and they don't have to work to build it up, either.

Happily :) I think my perception of speed is all wrong. I remember when Rich got his Sprint, it was as quick as lightening! We timed it to 60mph, 10 seconds! My Dolomite is quicker than a Clio cup according to me  Its about 10.5 to 60 on a good day! I think the problem here is I am totally biased

Clio Cup is about 6.9 seconds, but for the biased view :clapping:

knightrider150,

You need to stick the mk2 mr2 engine in. ;) Then they shift like nobodies business. Always have liked mk1 mr2's though.

Yer, Mark one Mr two = lovely. Used to walk past one in a lovely shade of blue on my way home from first school when they were just out. It had a very small & subtle 'Hasty & Tasty' on the boot lid, so apt. Still love 'em. Mum had a red T bar with black leather until recently but the price of parts was crucifying her. The amount of water it let in you'd have thought is was a Triumph

Adam, you are not driving that clit-oh right. Its a vvt engine and murderously schizophrenic, get the revs up if you want anything to happen.
