Can anyone tell me how to check/adjust my Sprint's Pow-r-Lok LSD? It's been in use for about 7-8 years & I think I'm getting too much spin on the inside wheel.

Hi Mart; There is quite a good description in the Sprint workshop manual on its operation and how to dismantle it, but nothing on adjustment. My guess its a "fixed by design" item and any adjustment involves replacement of the internal clutch plates perhaps ?

I seem to remember reading something about ramp angles of wedges inside the diff, not sure if they are adjustable, found this link has some info,

Thanks Tony. I thought you could adjust shims or something. I seem to recall that you used a torque wrench on the hub nut to check at what point the LSD would engage. Vague recollection. I'm sure I had a sheet somewhere with the details on.

To adjust it you have to strip it completely. Astandard they were not really set up as an LSD as they put both drive and both driven plates together.

If you are using the car on the road predominantly you do not want the diff set too fight as you will get understeer.

Tghe simplest way to check the torque on the LSD is to jack up one rear wheel, remove the brake drum and split pin from the castleated nut, fiot a socket on the nut with a torque wrench on the socket. Then starting at a very low poundage on the torque wrench, keep 'breaking' the torque wrench, winding it up after each click until the shaft/nut turns, check the setting on the torque wrench and you will have a rough idea of the torque setting of your LSD. I set mine to about 65ft/lbs for racing. To adjust it you will need to strip it and put shims behind the belville plate inside the diff. When it is out you can set it far more accurately.
