That 150hp figure for Sprints

I've read in a few places about the Sprint engine making 150 hp when in its design, testing stages or something similar.
What's the reason they didn't come with 150 hp? If it was unreliability then what was failing on them? How do you get that 150 hp with out really changing cam shafts or carbs?

The 150BHP motors were effectively blueprinted to make that figure (probably had a few other things done too), alas they couldn't keep tolerances close enough for production to make that a realistic output for manufacturing purposes.

For what it's worth the newly rebuilt engine in my TR7 Sprint is balanced and blueprinted. Each piston weighed and matched to each rod. Each piston matched to its cylinder, among other things.
I've said in another post that this engine is the most powerful 2.0-liter I've driven. And that includes modern stuff.
I believe there is tremendous power locked away in the Sprint engine.
Careful machining during rebuild, HS8s, a cam and tubular exhaust sets a bunch of it free.

says the man with the only tubular manifold in the world.... but i heard very similiar but i a lead to believe hs8, and a slightly diffrent cam are the way to go after all the other mods usa man mentions and they are supposed to be wonderful.. i know achap down here whos revs to 9000rpm and pushes out 220bhp.. buty then he does build single seater race cars for a living..

going to be marketed as a dolomite 135 but they averaged out at 127 probably becuase of valve timing variations...
