It will be "interesting" to drive....

I fitted "our" 1300 with a 3.89 diff which improved it considerably but then had to go to Spit 1500 style twin carbs
and exhaust when the 1300 downpipe broke and I could not find another.

You may find it ok but it will struggle 4 up on welsh hills....:-)

Time to find a TR7 engine and 1850 subframe....

Wonder who might have one of those.....:-)

You need the speedo drive pinion from a late 1500 1850 or 4 speed TR7 then.

Not sure if its just the speedo drive or if you need to change the cog on the mainshaft as well.

I may well have one but it will take me a while to find it....

Robsport may well have one.

Yes I know you are in Notts...welsh hills was being metaphorical...:-) but I would expect your speedo to now under-read quite a bit...you are now doing 18.5 mph per 1000 rpm instead of 15. so where once your speedo said 45 at a certain note you are now doing 55.5 which could get you in trouble...

2000 rpm was 30 ish and now you are doing 37....

Yes, assuming the Spitfire gear has the same tooth form and the same spindle length and diameter etc; etc; a smaller number of teeth will make it rotate more quickly for a given speed, so the speedometer will read higher.
This will be in the ratio (30 X 25/21 ) = 35.7 mph, very close to what the satnav says.
Tony.

but if your looking for part no 219002,you only get part no 219002
thanks for the name of them, ive put in fav`s list,as well as few more part numbers which i dont not have but have now
i cant grumble got the part cheapish aswell as the parts i got recently
must say driving it now with the 3.63 diff seams to be alot happier, less up and down gears, handles hills good where i live, copes very well with traffic.
if you got a 1300 dolly and a diff lying around in your spares, try it and see what you think? if you dont try-you will never know

Great news, the new 21tooth speedo drive pinion has done the trick, now runs spot on,within 0.5 to 1mph difference,so now the gauge says 50mph and sat nav says 49/50mph 8)
now does 60 mph@3000rpm :D :D :D less strain on the engine
but there is down side aswell :( temp gauge went to high and hasent come down at normal running, changed the temp sender and still the same, engine dont feel hot
so,all i can put it down too is the gauge, would anyone have a spare/donate/free`ish that i can check to see if it is my one up the wall

Note that the fuel and temp gauge readings are affected by the voltage stabiliser by the fuse box.
These are notorioulsy unreliable but there are nice solid state replacements.

Glad you are happy with the diff ratios. All it needs now is a TR7 engine and subframe to match.....

Now where would you find one of those I wonder...:-)

hi
got a new`ish temp gauge from member that works very well(well better then last one)
il look in to soild state stabiliser, but no no no to engine replacement, does nicely with 1300,buzzing along at 50mph at 2500rpm but i do think i need to change the potato pot filter for more free flowing filter---looking for used pancake so i can paint it,if you know where one is :bluewave:
