I have a problem on my PC.

I downloaded and installed a programme called Bluestacks last week. It lets you use phone aps on your PC. But ever since I installed it another programme seems to have installed itself called ilivid, which is Malware/Adware. Now I keep getting webpages opening and other sh1t. Ilivid is well documented on the web but I've tried everything, bar reinstalling Windows, to get rid of it but to no avail. Can anyone help please?

These things are self repairing, unless you get rid of it all any leftovers will repair. They are usually better behaved that they used to be though. Check through your entire programs list & uninstall any you don't recognise, there will likely be more than one entry. Check your brower(s) for add-ons & toolbars, again get rid of any you don't specifically recognise. You may well have to get rid of Bluestacks too.

CCleaner and Spyboy Search & Destroy are both free, clean and well worth getting.

Malwarebytes.org is good. Free one works just fine.

I've had good results with http://www.superantispyware.com

A good tip is to make sure your malware software is up to date then reboot and run the scan it in safe mode to ensure nothing sneaky is loaded in memory so can properly be cleaned.

iLivid has a faq. It is trying to make a legitimate business out of behaviour most of us think of as malware - tomaytoe / toemarto. Since they are trying to be legit the faq includes removal, the steps I stated above should do the trick and the browser toolbar is called searchqu. If you have multiple browsers installed searchqu will be in each.

The other tools mentioned should not be necessary but all are good to be aware of.

Thanks for the input guys. I had tried a few of those. I managed to get rid of ilivid but there must have been some other programme installed, so after running:-

CCleaner
Malwarebytes
adwcleaner
Adaware

I downloaded and ran SuperAntispyware (thanks Howard) and that detected 3 more cookies that the others didn't find. Seems to have eradicated all malware. I have been using SuperAntispyware on a few PCs at work and it seems to be the most thorough of all the freebies I've downloaded.

thanks again guys. :D
