Fitting Toledo Short Bumpers to my '80 Dolomite?

Hello all,
I have recently purchased a set of "short bumpers" from an early Toledo to fit on my 1980 Dolomite 1850HL. I have always wanted to put some short bumpers on my Dolomite really like the clean look they give by not wrapping around the body of the car, I bought some NOS Dolomite bumper irons... but they are slightly different in size. Do I need Toledo bumper irons I guess?, any help to where I could buy these would be appreciated :)

Cheers

Yes you need the irons, not sure if the mounting holes for the rear ones would line up with the Dolomite holes though. Where to get them? It's going to be pot lock I reckon or maybe get them custom fabricated.

Here are the part numbers, might help you in your search?

The front ones should be straightforward. The rear one might be a bit more difficult. You'll need to consider the number plate light unless you're going to drill into the bumper to fit a light. You will be left with some unsightly holes in the sides of the wings as well.

As per above really. If you decide not to proceed I would be interested in the rear one for my Toledo.

number plate lighting easily solved using "bolt lights" eg

We're in the same boat. I have a great rechromed short rear bumper but no irons so far. If you find four let me know!

Why devalue a dolomite with parts from a cheap Toledo?
You may as well put a 1300 engine and cheap 2 clock dash and placcy seats in too...

Better still...sell the dolomite to someone who wants one and get a toledo...

(Dives for cover)

Whatever works for your car etc.....:-)

And for the sake of a paltry few quid ffs dont flog the bumpers on fleabay. Keep them so you can go back to originality
when you see the error of your ways. They dont take up much room hanging on the shed wall...

I hope there is hope for you yet......

My thoughts too. However, I suspect it's already too late:

I like the cleaner look. My Sprint has been bumperless since the 2006 respray. I'm keeping the original rear bumper just in case. It looks like Rimmer Brothers has bumper irons. #819159 I believe. I will post pics after the bolting!

Thanks all for the comments and help! :D. Really appreciate that book scan for part numbers. I know it's not to everyones taste but oh well, I'll do what I like with my car though cheers. Have spent lots of time and money on her over the last year on many different original NOS bits and getting her road worthy, so why not do something a bit different and controversial? The holes on the side of the car for the original bumpers will be plated over and painted, so not much point in keeping them really  Don't have anywhere to store them so would rather see them used on someones Dolomite instead of sitting outside rusting away in the garden tbh even if I do get a few quid for them. Do not plan on ever selling the car so will change bits and pieces till I am happy :)

georgiasprint, I agree! The bumpers on the Dolly have always been a bit bumper-carish in my opinion. Especially on the rear where they wrap round etc. I believe there is a left/right rear bumper iron, rimmers only have one side (819159 as you stated). I'll send you a private message and let you know what I have found so you can fit yours too.

Cheers
Jack :)

Well I need new side bits...so I duly bid....

and no I'm not buying it to store for you....:-)

I did try....

Why not just take the side bits off and make up some cool black end caps? I'm sure some bits off another car
at the scrappy like an old Volvo might work. You just need a U/V shaped end cap.

Ok great :D Ah that's a shame ;)..... You are more than welcome to them, you may win them for 99p who knows? :) I also have some NOS bits for sale if you look at my other items, all funds are going back towards the Dolly. Would be nice to know they will be going to someone who would use them. That is a nice idea, I was tempted to cut up the front Toledo short bumper and make "moustache" ones (centreless) like people did with the Escort's etc.

It was a 1850 with a sprint running gear from 1972. It was used for testing the new sprint engine during rallies that year.
