had an idea.
george said that he has some pictures of my 1850 when it was in its prime.
maybe there are more picture like this out there. would be cool to see them as they were. so all picture of dollies from long ago
Ok I'll start this one off then... the first 2 pics are of my dads Dolomite 1500 (not badged as a HL!) registration RWK 774R. These were taken in about 1985 and the car was already on its way out then I think! I'm the tallest one in the group pic and would have been 12 then. Note the neighbours Talbot Sunbeam, Cortina Mk4 2.0 Ghia, sisters Raleigh Boxer, brand new Bryant houses about 2 miles from Canley.
This is me aged 18 in about 1990 with my 1850HL . I loved this car but it lasted 6 months. Despite looking in good nick with no rust, when it went for an MOT, we discovered that it had been involved in an accident quite some time before and the front chassis leg had corroded. Repair was more than the car was worth (it cost £500) so it went for scrap. If you look at the pic you can see that the front o/s doesnt look quite right. Never noticed that when we bought it though... Extra points for anybody who can spot the other odd thing about the front end which I only noticed when I just dragged out the photo...

They are actually both on upside down... at least compared to all the official triumph pics I can find including the original brochures I have... although I notice that I have a Rimmer Bros catalogue with a Sprint on the front when they are upside down too. Which way up are they meant to be? The indicator is nearest the centre on my current dolly.
IMHO the indicators should be on the inside, so that when you have the sidelights on, any oncoming traffic can see the true width of the car . Am I correct in saying this?
Here's a couple of my Dad's 1974 Sprint. This is the car that's responsible for me being into Dollys! To the best of my knowledge, the first one is somewhere in Anglesey and I would have been about 6 at a guess which would make it 1980 or thereabouts.
The second one is around the same time, probably a year either side of the first one. I know the location for definite - it is Whitemead Park in Parkend in the Forest of Dean. The old Sprint is barely visible so I've included a super-zoom-in version for you Looks like it's parked next to a Marina.
RAC / DVLA searches show that car's no longer on the road sadly. There are definitely other shots of it (including, I think, one of me stood proudly in front of it aged about 5!) but my mother can't find them anywhere...
No, I fitted them. I took them off my Mini 1275 GT which I used to use for rallying. They were Cibie Oscars. Didn't half light up the road (and half the bl..dy county) on a night rally!! Did my last rally (in the Sprint) in January 77 while my missus was pregnant with my daughter. Nearly brought her on with all the sliding on the black ice!! Great days.
Just noticed the yellow sprint on the front of the Rimmers parts catalogue has them the wrong way also!
Should definately be on the inside closest to the bumper underrider .
You only have to look inside front cover for a pic from a previous advert on the Dolomite range.
