Alternative alternator (sprint) ?

Is there an alternator from a modern car that would fit without too much trouble? I was thinking of something like a denso from a Japanese car or similar. I dont mind fabrication/machining bits to suit and as the wiring loom is going to be "modernised" soon I thought I could integrate this at the same time.
Cheers

A127 from Montego/Maestro. Fits without any modification.

Modern.
There are a lot of "modern" lucas alternators that fit. The LRA100 is the most modern type. If you want a denso or something like that the best is to go to a shop that sells alternators and just have a phisical compare what could fit.
A friend of mine does work at such a shop ands the lra100 is fine. They are also with more amps but i do not know their number. He also did modify some bosch starter for me that fits. Half the current, 1,7kw, double the speed and half the weight as the orignal 0,7kw one.

No, there's not a lot left, but the alternators are still in plentiful supply, even new ones, and as they fit without modification of anything it's an easy way to get 60 - 65 amps.

I did know about the montego units as a replacement but I was also thinking of losing the bulk sizewise. With originals so close to the battery (which i'm moving also) I'm trying for a clean look in the engine bay if poss. I may have other plans for the space provided

The A127 are slightly smaller in width and circumference, but not a lot

the little denso ones are very good. Daihutsu charade I believe...
Little bit of a fiddle to fit, but I got 2 brand new genuine ones at £40 each. Bargain.

It was on my 1500, now bolted to a TR7 engine (oops, must get that car finished

)
Can take a pic, but be aware I think my mounting would not be typical. I had no reference to begin with....
But the alternators are tiny, light and about £180 from brise motorsport, used by loads of people in lightweight kitcars etc.

cheaper off the bay...

My £40 sounds a bargain! The spacer for the mount was just washers, a few, but easy to get it exact. The adjuster I cut and welded the standard arm. But those turnbuckles are not too dear. On mine, I ended up using a 2CV belt (no manual fan)
