Not sure which to start with, Ive got the front subframe out and the column too. Going to make the car moveable to get to my mates to complete the wiring mods so:
Do I Fit the column first and offer the rack up to it whilst attached to the subframe OR
Do I fit the subframe first (with rack attached) Then fit the column and U/J?
Any recommendations guys?
Cheers
Tony

Fitting the second way would be better "fit the subframe first (with rack attached) Then fit the column and U/J".

Its doesn't really matter. Even with the column in place. You can still fit the subframe later.
The crucial bit is the intermediate shaft. You need to get this in the condition where the splines at each end are all clean and slip on the splines on the column and the rack really easily. This means plenty of slippery stuff like copaslip on the splines, good clean of all with a wire brush and you can ease the splined holes a touch wider using a screwdriver to wedge them open a tad.
Also make sure the sliding part of the intermediate shaft actually slides...again clean and lubricate.
With this all done its not that hard to mate them up. Get the wheels straight and match it with the steering wheel so the indicators all self cancel properly down the line too.

Splines are all good and slide well. I'll go for the subframe first I think and add the column after.
Cheers guys

Best to fit the coupling to the rack and then offer up the column last. I've had to do this a few times and it has always been a pig of a job to get the column in the top of the coupling. I'd recommend fitting a Super Flex bulkhead bush at the same time. It is literally fit-and-forget and well worth every penny.
