On my 1300fwd or 1500fwd gearbox check over, all gears, syncros, bearings etc show little wear although reverse gear has been crunched several times due to not stopping properly before selecting reverse.
There is one area of concern which is the third and top gear selector groove and selector fork sides. Both show signs of wear and I have attached a gear photo and a quick sketch of actual dimensions showing how worn they are. The first and second gear selector groove and fork side show very little signs of wear as I expected as the transmission as a whole looks very clean as if refurbished not so long back.
Questions: What would cause this excessive wear? Should I replace these parts on the rebuild? Who would carry these spares?

I would appreciate anyones thoughts on what I should do?

Hi Pete, me again.

The wear on the sector forks is usually down to someone hanging their hand on the gear lever whilst driving hence only on the 3rd and 4th hub. I've seen the forks rectified by building up with weld then dressing back, but I would recommend finding someone can do this with alloy steel weld as normal steel weld would be too soft.

The synchro hub is the same as the 1300, I believe Mick also has some of these.

Spoke to Mick Dolphin tonight and he has all the parts I need to refurbish the gearbox including selector fork and gear, so chuffed as anything. Glad you pointed out about wear caused by hand resting as I wondered if clearances were wrong in assembly. Mick pointed out that usually selector forks are made of bronze to stop this type of wear.
