Panel Update

The fabricator and I have been trying to improve on the front floor pan repair sections which until now have been a copy of a rather poor attempt that came with a car I bought many years ago.

Today, a laser cut press tool has been ordered which will hopefully be the final task in getting something closer to the OE in stock.

If this works, then similar tools will be commissioned for the boot floor repair sections which will then be remade as a non handed pair, again, more authentic to the OE.

I think a Knighthood is in order...!!!

It is this kind of dedication that makes classic car ownership (at times!!!) a complete joy...

Couldn't agree more. The club could do with more members like alun, who goes the extra mile. I will be picking up my club cills next Sunday. :D

Interesting article in this month's Retro Cars mag about Magnum Panels, never heard of them until I saw it but there's quite a detailed write up about how they create tooling from scratch. They make Mk1 Escort full rear wings for example. Their business model appears to be to respond to requests for specific panels from the classic car industry. They do a lot of Ford and Mini panels, may be worth an approach from the club to discuss options to produce some of our problem panels?

Well done Alun for all of your hard work. I haven't had to buy any club panels to date, but it is reassuring to know that they are available should I need them.

I can only echo what others have already said. The club panels are worth every penny.
