This is my first ever posting on this forum! I'm a Sprint owner in NE of England (Cleveland). I believe its fairly easy to upgrade the indicator flasher unit to a modern electronic one that works a lot better (i.e. much more consistent flashing rate). Can anyone tell me a suitable unit to get and where to source one from? Is the wiring straightforward? Many thanks. Tim.

I ordered an uprated flasher unit from Malc earlier this week, which despite the postal strike in the UK, arrived this morning. It was a doddle to fit and works a treat. The "flash" is consistent, regardless of whether the engine is running or not! Superb.

I am in the TDC already! (sorry - no new subs for you this time Malc!) Actually, after I'd posted my question I noticed the unit listed in the club stock list in the magazine from Nov-Dec 2006, although the list in the more recent March-April 2007 is a lot less comprehensive and doesn't have it included. Anyway, now I know you have them, I'll be giving you a buzz this week!

Appologies, It is a bit of a challenge trying to reconcile 'handles' with people as we don't have a cross ref list. I'm not sure what has gone wrong with the parts list in the DMix but cleary some work to do because you are correct, half of it is missing

I've got the electronic flasher unit fitted now and it works a treat. The only slight puzzlement I had was that the instructions (which were meant to be based on a '79 Sprint) didn't seem to quite tie-up with my '79 Sprint....

The instructions had me looking for an oblong unit mounted next to the speedo. Now there was indeed an oblong unit next to the speedo, so I thought 'Great, this is it'. However, the wiring colours didn't tally up, one of the two wires being purple! I had a go at fitting it here anyway, and this gave me the most perfect flashing hazzard lights a Dolly has ever had!

On my car, the flasher unit was ROUND, and was actually mounted further to the right, directly below the fuel guage and rear screen heater switch, on the back of the black surround that the dash fits in. The wiring colours to this unit were as per the instructions. The loom looked completely untampered with, so I have to assume its always been there.
Anyway, all is fine now. Looking forward to getting the voltage stabiliser as well - then I'll be able to trust what I'm seeing in front of me....maybe!

I'll update the instructions because I have indeed stated the location 'proximety' in relation to the wrong guage. The 'round' flasher unit you removed is actually an aftermarket replacement, the OE units were oblong, a smaller version of the hazard unit, glad you got it sorted

Tall black square Lucas flasher unit from the scrapper. Pocket sized just need an extra earth lead. The only disadvantage is that they don't speed up when a bulb fails.

The club uprated one flashes at double speed when a bulb fails - as I found this week...

I had the lucas ones fitted to my 1850 and they sped up when a bulb blew.

I don't know what flasher unit I would have had but whenever mine blew a lamp, or lost an earth, the indicator lamps would just jam in the 'on' position when you were indicating.......
