fuel pump - is? this correct pump please

Hi we have tried getting the 1850 (1972)started these evening, we took off the electrical fuel pump which was u/s and tried the manual pump photo attached, this pump does not seem to touch the cam, is this the wrong fuel pump? Any idea where I could get a correct one in east anglia this weekend. many thanks Gary

I've moved your thread here. Did you fit the pump with a spacer? Some pumps need a spacer and some don't. This is the only thing I can think of.

That looks like the correct pump and is a short arm pump which must not be used with a spacer.
Take care when fitting that the lever goes on top of the cam. It is quite easy to fit it under the cam
and it will not be able to pump.
Also worth trying it first moving the lever by hand with the hoses connected the right way round...in at the top and out at the bottom iirc.
You may find it easier to fit by turning the engine over so that pump cam is away from the lever. You can feel this
through the hole if you have thin fingers.

Yes, that looks very much the same as my old one.
It was an A.C. type RA1 with a lever stamped "7990047 "
This is what the lever profile should look like. I did this with the old pump on a surface plate with the gasket flange on the left hand edge. The top and bottom edges of the flange are marked as are the centre-lines of the bolt holes. This pump also fits early Sprints BTW.
