Am I right in thinking that the Triumph Dolomite/Toledo was a very popular driving school car when it was new/current...?! Did BSM purchase a load of them or were they used by private instructors...?!
Do you (or do you know of anyone) that owns an ex-driving school Dolomite/Toledo...?! It'd be great to find one and dress it up as it would have been whilst 'in service' as it were...
Hi All,
I learnt to drive in a 1979 BSM Dolomite and was test ready just before their planned switch to the Metro. I was offered the opportunity to take my test in the Metro but didn't like the idea and preferred the Dolly (and still do...)
Yes, the 1300 was a popular BSM Driving School car.
From the cutting above it looks like they bought about 1,000 of them which is a respectable number.
So much so, there are BSM ( British School of Motoring ) specific parts listed in the parts book.
For instance.....
TKC 1840 flywheel and ring-gear. Maybe a heavier flywheel as an anti-stall aid ?
GCP 230 clutch plate. Maybe a heavy duty one with thicker linings ?
ULC 2450 1300 gearbox variant.
The differences look like they are in the new reverse gear(?) UKC 8748 and UKC 8750 idler gear.
Tony.
How things have changed!
My wifes "office" as a qualifed AA driving instructor, ahem coacher is a Fiesta Eco boost 1 litre
and has the same acceleration figures of a Dolomite Sprint.
The car in the superb cutting above (thanks davbat) was last taxed in 1992 so it did go on to live for a bit longer than its working life... I can only imagine that most of the BSM cars from that year would have the same numberplate area code (DWC) so if you have a DWC 1300 you may have an ex-BSM motor...!!!
