Brake master cylinder....stupid question.....

.....is this plastic ferrule supposed to be removed before fitment as I can't see it on the parts catalogue exploded view?

Only if you want to recon it...
Its the circlip that holds the pistons in...

It's a club recon unit anyway Jonners....so it stays in then for fitment to the servo?

Sure does...if you remove it the piston will pop out on a spring...not what you want.
