Hello All,
I've been given a big box of Dolomite bits and 2 of them are quite curious.
I have this flywheel. It is in lovely almost unused condition apart from storage surface rust.
On the ring gear it has the part number 214599 which I have found is the correct part for a Sprint starter ring gear.
On the casting there is also a hand engraved number 215719 which does not cross refer.
I also don't recognise the inner front face which is recessed and has drillings for 25 holes two of which are fitted with dowels.
Is this an automatic flywheel ?
The numbers are between the split pins and at 180 degrees.
Piccys herewith
Tony.

Not auto no, that would be a thin steel "flex plate". On the 2nd pic the surface where the clutch plate would run is the same level as the rest of the surface. On a sprint (mine anyway) the plate face is recessed into the flywheel and doesnt have the extra ring of holes.
No idea what it is tho :)

I was wondering about saving the ring gear as these are quite expensive from our usual suppliers, but the problem is how to remove it. I don't think a heating solution will work, so it looks like cutting the flywheel to release it. I think that will be a lot of hard work with a hacksaw though. Is there any other removal method ?

The picture is a comparison of a TR7 and a Dolly Sprint flywheel. The pictures aren't perfect but the important dimensions are all the same except the TR7 one has much more metal on the rear face. The Dolly one is about 2kg lighter so I am using that one.
