Heya everyone!

Had a bit of trouble lately with my front brakes squeaking/whistling when I'm driving, usually the forward right wheel, occasionally the forward left wheel, more when driving slowly. Having searched on here a bit it says that it could be a few things, either the master brake cylinder, brake hoses or sticky callipers?

What I would like to know is, how do I figure out which thing it is? Is there a better way than just trial an error? Only I don't want to waste money replacing things that don't need replacing yet!

First thing, jack the car up and spin the wheels. May help find teh culprit, but doubtful!
Then wheels off.
Now lever the calliper pistons back in, and take the pads out (note which is which, unless replacing with new)
I use a file to gently remove crud and debris off the calliper where the top and bottom edges of the pads sit. Wash off with a squirt of brake cleaner (handy stuff) Likewise gently clean the edges of the pad.
Now clean the anti squeal shims (they are fitted I hope!) and a smear of copper grease on each side, plus a smear on the calliper where the top and bottom edges of the pad sit. Smear means just that, nice and thin.
Reassemble, see if that cures it.

Second totally what clive said.
If the pistons dont go back in easilly then they need a clean up and a new seal kit. Replace any pistons that are badly pitted.
