I am getting bored with charging my battery so many times now as it won't hold a charge long. Its about 4 years old anyway, maybe 5.

I would like one with more CCA and possibly AH although I have limited extra's. I have seen one that is 45ah which seems fine but CCA is 400. A good size, just a tad taller.

I hear you can go 10 - 15% over the normal CCA . I think this could be 20% over though.

Will it fry something if I used it ?

Nope, its fine, use as bigger battery as you can possibly fit, it wont harm anything.
Only thing to bear in mind is that to gain full advantage, you really ought to uprate the cables from the starter to the battery and the earthing straps to something thicker as well. Its no use having a massive battery if its still working through weedy cables.

Thanks for the advice Matt and the sensible tip on the cables which after 35 years have probably seen better days.
When you say thicker, what would you recommend, 25% ?

The limiting thing on a Sprint battery is clearance of the air filter box.

The numbers are 038 for standard dollies and 015 for the slightly uprated one with the same dimensions.

As you have webbers on yours you maybe have more options? I cant remember what your air filter looks like.

If it were me i would use something akin to this, nice and chunky, with proper connectors soldered onto the end.

Probably not from Demon Thieves though because expensive.

If you go down the custom route and buy the cable and connectors separately, and need them crimped, let me know.

I bought a 10t crimper on ebay a while ago, and it needs some justification.

My car won't come back from Dorset till mid Sept, which is when I can measure up and do mine.

This page http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performan ... tery-cable is also interesting, in that it gives the area of conductor (they assume) you want for the a couple of current ratings - 16 sq mm for 170/175 amp. But there's pleanty of 16 sq mm, and larger cable in welding supplies on ebay for a wee bit less than Delirium Tremens charge.

However, I'm still a little uncertain that the 16 sq mm would be suitable to run a length from a battery in the boot, which I'm considering for the Herald to make space for a remote servo.

I have K&Ns Jon so clearance looks ok. I have found one which is almost the same length, a few millimetres thinner and 13mm taller which does not seem to pose an issue. Better AH and CCA than both the standard options. I considered the Astra one but I don't like the fact its 175mm width.

I must admit I only considered the need for heavy crimping afterwards and now hope to buy something ready made at a sensible price but if not I will keep you in mind Mahesh.
